We're excited to share an opportunity for an existing vacancy as Contract Mechanical Designer.
This is an excellent opportunity to make an immediate impact within an OEM equipment manufacturer, supporting the design and development of custom machinery and automated systems. You'll collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to bring innovative mechanical solutions from concept through to detailed design.
Daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using Autodesk Inventor
Support the design and development of custom OEM equipment and automated machinery
Apply sound mechanical design principles, material selection, and manufacturability considerations
Revise existing designs to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, controls, and fabrication
Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving during build and testing phases
Prepare and maintain design documentation, BOMs, and engineering change records
Mandatory Requirements:
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design
8+ years of mechanical design experience with OEM or custom machinery
Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D modeling, assemblies, detailed drawings)
Solid understanding of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Requirements:
Experience with sheet metal design, weldments, and pneumatic systems
Familiarity with AutoCAD and PDM systems
Previous work on industrial automation or material handling equipment
Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacture principles
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently under tight timelines
Location: Oakville, Ontario
Salary Range: $40 - $55 per hour (Contract)
