Job Responsibilities:
You will support the design, verification and upkeep of our robots\' mechanical systems. Your tasks could range from performing field testing of our newest generation of unmanned surface vehicle to designing structural components for an off-road ground vehicle. You may be required to take robots for walks, and are able to cope with the questioning stares of onlookers.
Additional tasks may include:

  • Prototyping of new electromechanical systems.
  • Test plan development and implementation.
  • Modeling, drafting and specification of custom parts and assemblies.
  • Sourcing and qualification of new mechanical components and systems.
  • Pushing our robots to their breaking points.
Required Experience/Skills:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage deadlines.
  • Capable hands-on skills. You are able to turn a car into a boat if necessary.
  • Team player, good communicator, able to cope with sarcasm.
  • Able to cope with sudden jarring changes in projects, priorities, and the local gravity field.
  • Past experience with building robots or other vehicles which are larger than a breadbox.
  • SolidWorks modeling and drafting experience.
  • Experience having parts manufactured to your specifications.
  • Basic electrical prototyping & troubleshooting experience.
Helpful
  • Familiarity with Linux, C, Python, ROS.
  • Experience with common sensors and actuators used for robotics.
  • Experience with the control of mobile robots.
  • Machine shop experience.
  • Experience with sheet metal parts.
