WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Reporting to one of the Mechanical Team Leads, your role as
Mechanical Designer
will provide excellence in delivering solutions to technical challenges brought by clients and internal projects. The position is responsible to develop industry leading, market-ready technology solutions.
The role centers on leading the design and development of advanced mechanical systems, particularly for use in harsh marine and defense environments. Core responsibilities include developing equipment such as winches, launch and recovery systems, and other electromechanical assemblies, with flexibility to contribute to a broader range of projects including custom manufacturing equipment and specialized product designs.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Technical research, investigation and data mining.
Innovation, prototyping and technical problem solving for both internally driven projects and for service projects for external clients.
Design (including sketching, 2D and 3D CAD, FEA, optimization and other typical design activities); development, calculations, design support and documentation where directed.
Building prototypes, assembling test equipment, and being a capable asset in a technical build space.
Process review, report analysis, research summaries, documentation management and development.
Supervision of technologists where appropriate, guidance and mentoring of junior employees.
Where requested, participation in company status/planning meetings, project meetings, client reviews, technical training sessions and other company related/requested activities or tasks.
Project/Job planning, team and personal time management to effectively support multiple projects at any one time.
Promoting high-quality technical services in a professional manner.
Assistance and support where requested in all aspects of a small consulting engineering operation.
Presenting in a professional, competent, pleasant and friendly manner in all interactions with co-workers, suppliers and clients.
Maintain and support a positive environment for learning and growth within the team.
THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
Mechanical Engineering degree or Technology Diploma considered an asset
2+ years of experience
Strong understanding of fabrication and design fundamentals
Advanced computer aided design skill
Experience with CAD software (Inventor and/or SolidWorks considered an asset)
Experience with writing user manuals, maintenance schedules, test plans.
Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes and technology.
Willingness and demonstrated ability to multi-task, address and prioritize assignments.

Our office is located in the heart of Spryfield, but more specifically, at 264 Herring Cove Road in Suite #100. If you know the Spryfield area - we are right across the street from Sobeys, close to the ever-increasing options for interesting lunches, and near to beautiful lakes, forests, and trails.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Our office is open Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm. Our corporate culture values work-life balance, allowing a flexible, 8 hour workday. Remote desk options are also available at locations within the regional Innovation Ecosystem, including Dalhousie ideaHUB, C.O.V.E., ThePIER, Ignite Labsabs).
