The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to create, manage, and maintain the master 3D model for our planned demonstration plant.

Working directly with our engineering team (Mechanical and Process), you will be the team's CAD expert responsible for translating all Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and equipment specifications into a detailed, fabrication-ready 3D plant model.

Your critical output will be the complete set of detailed production drawings and documentation used by our fabrication vendors and installation contractors to build the plant.

Key Responsibilities

3D Modeling & Mechanical Design:

Create, develop, and maintain the master 3D model of the demonstration plant using industry-standard CAD software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D and SolidWorks. Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs and assembly drawings in alignment with project specifications.

Engineering Documentation:

Draft and update all Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) based on markups from the engineering team. Create comprehensive schematics and system layouts. Assist in the drafting of construction documents and technical reports.

Drawing Production:

Generate all necessary 2D documentation from the 3D model, including General Arrangement (GA) drawings, piping isometrics, and detailed piping plans and sections.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

Perform regular clash detection on the 3D model to identify and help resolve interferences between piping, equipment, steel, and cable trays. Review design schematics for accuracy, feasibility, and adherence to safety standards and project requirements.

Material Management:

Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and material take-offs directly from the model.

System Integration Support:

Support system design processes, including component selection and the development of assembly instructions and procedures for mechanical systems.

Project Closeout & Control:

Update the master model and all associated drawings with field "redline" markups to create a final, certified "as-built" set of documentation. Manage and control the drawing revision and distribution process.

Essential Qualifications

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related technical drafting certificate. Minimum of 1 year experience in a 3D design/drafting role, with a strong portfolio focused on industrial plant layout and piping design. Strong ability to read and interpret P&IDs and generate accurate piping isometrics. Familiarity with standard mechanical equipment, structural steel elements, and various piping components.

Required Skills

A commitment to producing high-quality work. Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software is essential (AutoCAD Plant 3D is highly preferred; experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar platforms is also valuable). Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and system design, applied to HVAC, industrial machinery, and piping systems. Proven experience in drafting schematics, detailed assembly drawings, and comprehensive construction documentation. In-depth knowledge of mechanical components, assemblies, and various manufacturing processes. Exceptional ability to interpret complex technical schematics and create detailed, accurate 2D/3D models. Practical familiarity with construction practices related to the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems. Excellent attention to detail, complemented by strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working seamlessly across multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
