The Mechanical Designer will develop detailed mechanical designs, layouts, and drawings to support automation projects from concept to completion. They work closely with engineers and project teams to create precise, manufacturable solutions that meet project requirements and performance standards.

We're seeking someone with a strong engineering background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is driven by continuous improvement. The role involves applying design principles and technical expertise to develop high-quality mechanical layouts, models, and drawings.

Key Responsibilities:



Is proficient in 2D, 3D, and solid modeling to produce detailed mechanical layouts, models, and drawings independently. Produces working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, or products using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Prepares concept, design, and production drawings with supporting calculations and material data, ensuring that designs meet performance criteria and manufacturing capabilities. Develops requirement specifications and documentation, performs project risk assessments, implements mitigation strategies, and prepares product operating instructions and manuals. Organizes documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, and schedules. Documents research, design specifications, test results, design refinements, final production analysis, and operational manuals. Collaborates with customers, designers, and engineers to define project requirements and ensure design intent aligns with customer needs. Provides technical support during the fabrication and installation phases, ensuring designs are accurately translated into final products. Brings forward alternate approaches and solutions during the design stage to improve quality and productivity in manufacturing and purchasing functions. Oversees installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications. Supports assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing of designed systems. Manages project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations. Applies fundamental engineering principles along with advanced analytical techniques throughout the design process. Performs computer simulations and other experiments to test and improve designs. Supports the design and layout of mechanical equipment and systems for balance-of-plant scope of work for new and existing facilities. Actively participates in the compliance of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Assurance System. Completes general and any other tasks as assigned.

Education & Experience:



Diploma or degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Specialized Experience. Minimum of 3+ years of design and development engineering. Proven experience as a Mechanical Designer, particularly in the design of process equipment for automation.

Qualifications & Skills:



Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication processes, and industry standards. Knowledge of mechanics, machining, and mechanical component design. Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, and machine safety. Proven experience managing technical or automation projects, ideally in a controls or engineering environment. A driven individual who has effective problem-solving skills and high attention to detail. Ability to work independently, within a team environment and actively participate in team meetings. Ability to use technology, resources, and time in an efficient matter. Must be able to lift 50+lbs and carry 40+lbs. Knowledge of Health and Safety protocols and procedures. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Standard First Aid/CPR-C (asset).
