We are seeking a Martial Arts Instructor to join our Therapeutic Recreation Team. The successful candidate is both a group facilitator and martial artist working in our Learning Disabilities & Mental Health program. Candidate would be responsible for delivering the martial arts and physical training components of our Therapeutic Martial Arts programs to children and youth ages 9-18. These are manualized evidence informed programs combining martial arts training with psychoeducation, mindfulness, and emotion regulation strategies, to support the mental health of children & youth.As our Martial Arts Instructor, you will: * Facilitate the Martial Arts and physical training portions of CDIs Therapeutic Martial Arts programs, using a combination of Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques, as directed by the program manual.

  • Work in tandem with another facilitator to effectively plan and deliver program activities, including supporting with group management, and additional program components.
  • Facilitate all activities in an engaging, safe, and accessible way, accounting for variations in age, developmental ability, and client specific needs.
  • Actively assess and manage physical and emotional risks during groups.
  • Help manage client behaviors in a non-shaming or judgmental way consistent with the program model.
  • Contribute to program meetings with clients following group sessions to promote their mental, emotional, and physical training, as requested.
  • Ensure proper client documentation is completed as required (i.e.-Incident reports, group reports and client notes).
  • Communicate client information and concerns, including child protection concerns, to Program Coordinator promptly.
  • Perform other assigned duties in the interests of the agency.
What you bring:
  • Instructor level experience in a program relevant martial art (Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo).
  • Experience facilitating programs involving youth in a therapeutic, educational, or recreational setting.
  • Experience in learning disabilities and/or mental health (LDMH) or an interest in professional development in this area.
  • Excellent initiative, emotion regulation, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to commute to the job location and work at least 3 hours per week, in the evenings or on a weekend, as scheduled.
Working Conditions:
  • Constant interaction with children, youth, families, and co-workers.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Fast-paced work environment.
  • Required to teach and demonstrate martial arts and fitness techniques.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients, including primarily evenings (4p-9p) or weekends (10am-4pm)

Compensation:
CDI offers a competitive wage starting at $30.00 per hour. Experience and relevant credentials will also be considered. This is a casual non-bargaining position.Apply now:
