Job Description


Duties:Reporting to the Director of Brand and Marketing, the marketing content specialist works in close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications teams, as well as other members of the University community.Marketing Content Creation:

  • Develops and maintains a marketing content calendar that considers institutional priorities, key events, and activities.
  • Conceptualizes, writes, creates, edits, updates and evaluates marketing content for digital platforms (including Instagram stories, email copy and video scripts), print collateral (including long-form promotional materials and brochures), and advertising (including digital display ads).
  • Researches and monitors trends and changing best practices in relation to marketing content strategy and identifies opportunities to improve audience engagement.
  • Performs content audits for departments and faculties and identifies opportunities to improve content performance, support institutional goals, and adhere to accessibility legislation and best practices.
  • Provides content administration and oversight for VIU websites - includes evaluating and completing requests for new pages and menu changes, and reviewing, editing content and approving content updates.
  • Works closely with the Web team to ensure VIU websites are well-structured , support institutional goals, and adhere to accessibility legislation and web best practices.
  • Provides web content training to VIU web editors, covering accessibility, brand voice and editorial style guide.
  • Considers internal client marketing needs and relies on independent judgement to propose appropriate content solutions.
  • Monitors content performance to track effectiveness, impact and achievement of KPIs and adjusts content strategy as required.
General:
  • Champions the University\'s brand identity and ensures its correct application in all marketing materials.
  • Creates and contributes to various marketing plans to support a coordinated approach to marketing.
Performs detailed website curation, including writing, updating, and maintaining content, in consultation with management/leadership. Makes recommendations for website optimization related to user experience (UX) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).Required Qualifications:Bachelor\'s degree in a relevant discipline such as marketing, communications, digital media or a related field. Minimum five years\' recent employment experience in marketing content creation for both traditional and digital media, strategic and tactical planning, and social media management for a complex, multi-stakeholder organization in a client-facing role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to create clear, compelling and accurate content for digital and print platforms.
  • Excellent writer with a knowledge of SEO best practices and international web content accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2)
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok and best practices to create positive brand sentiment.
  • Proven ability to leverage social media platforms in support of strategic marketing goals, and evaluate the success of social campaigns.
  • Experience creating content for a variety of audiences while maintaining alignment with brand standards.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization.
  • Skilled in working with an enterprise-level content management system, such as Drupal and Wordpress.
  • Experience working with a CRM (SalesForce) and email marketing platforms (MailChimp).
  • Experience working both collaboratively and independently on complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Advanced copywriting and copyediting skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, leverage problem solving skills, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to address time-sensitive tasks with care, attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to produce consistent, informative, well-researched and concise status updates on projects and initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of elements of visual design; graphic design and/or video editing software
