Job Description


The Marketing and Communications Intern is a key team member for the overall marketing, communication, website and social media activities for Student Housing Services (SHS). This development position will contribute to the positioning and branding of the department to all stakeholders, both internal and external; students, prospective students, faculty and the community as a whole.

The Marketing and Communications Intern uses multiple platforms to reinforce the value of campus residence living as a key part of the university experience. This is accomplished through print material, (brochures, posters), digital media (website, mass email communicational, social media), university recruitment events, the Housing Portal, as well as numerous in-residence promotions.

Working with the Manager, Residence Admission and Marketing, the Intern will learn to design and create visual concepts, using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate each stakeholder group and ensure that all graphic design work adheres to both the branding guidelines of the department, the University of Guelph, and AODA accessibility requirements.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree or college diploma (or in their final year) in Marketing, Communications, or related field, along with three (3) months of related experience. A combination of entry-level experience in marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, web management, graphic design, and digital engagement and/or education may be considered.

Strong technical skills are required including: web design/ HTML and content management systems (ie. Drupal), graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, inDesign) and experience in layout, typography, visual ideation. Knowledge of University brand guidelines, and accessibility standards and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will possess superior communication skills; written, oral and interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. A thorough knowledge of the University of Guelph: residences, student services, and a thorough grounding in the University\'s strategic plan and strategic directions would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure and perform efficiently in a very busy work environment, accuracy and attention to detail.
