Position: Market-Creating Innovation Advisor

Reports to: Chief of Staff, Operations

Position Term: Full Time Permanent

Primary Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Job Purpose

The Product Innovation team focuses on ideating and exploring innovative ideas through a disciplined approach to create new offerings and new markets that are delivered through optimal channels. Through ongoing and rapid ideation, exploration, solution development, prototyping, testing, validation, and refinement, this multidisciplinary team will produce new models to diversify sources for donation funds and further strengthening existing market offerings.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Passionately conceptualize, design and build compelling solutions to make a meaningful impact to diversify sources for donation funds and further strengthen market engagement.
  • Developing a variety of sources for broad scope opportunities (facilitating brainstorming, idea submission process, individual ideation, market trends/opportunity review exercise, and more.
  • Being well versed on the current landscape and emerging trends in consumer behavior, the charitable sector, international development, technology, and new business models to enhance ideation and solution development.
  • Evaluating ideas (high-level and low-level evaluations) to understand the opportunity, financials, competitive landscape, addressable market, market viability, expected growth/scale, the effort required (people, time, cost, other requirements).
  • Operating with a portfolio management approach to consistently monitor, compare, prioritize an innovation portfolio to ensure resources are deployed on best opportunities.
  • Creating thorough business cases to outline the idea for consideration.
  • Operating as an entrepreneur to pursue top-rated ideas in the portfolio through defined stages to determine market viability (ideation, evaluation, solution design, user experience, regulatory and compliance adherence, prototyping, market testing, review and decision on how to proceed).
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the other team members of the Market-Creating Innovation team and external partners.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in product development and/or product management.
  • A university degree in business, engineering, strategy, science, or a similar discipline (MBA an asset).
  • Experience in a start-up or agile environment, and familiarity with the process of setting up a new entity.
  • Experience creating detailed business cases to equip senior leadership decision making.
  • Experience facilitating working sessions or group brainstorming.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing minimally viable products and conducting market testing.
  • Experience designing process, solutions, user experiences, is preferred.
  • Building and creating go-to-market plans for new products and technological solutions.
  • A natural curiosity and advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Strong activity planning/project management skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, ROIs, resource allocation and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Emotional intelligence, strong communication skills, and professionalism.
  • Ability to create and communicate clarity and structure from ambiguous problems.
  • Understanding of international development and charitable space is an asset.
