We're on a quest to find a Marine Science Co-op Student to analyze oceanographic data, prepare technical reports and support field deployments with our autonomous boats.

Operating on oceans around the world from Victoria BC, Open Ocean Robotics is a rapidly growing startup transforming how we understand our oceans through better data. We are leaders in solar-powered autonomous boats, also called uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), that voyage inhospitable ocean environments for multi-month missions. Core Responsibilities

• Provide field support and planning for USV deployments, including USV piloting, USV launch and recovery, and other support
• Support the collection, organization and analysis of oceanographic and other maritime data
• Assist with writing technical, field and project reports with a focus on describing data acquisition methods, analysis methods and discussing results of analysis
• Work in a collaborative environment with team members in field operations, oceanographic sciences, engineering and business

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• Third year or higher standing in an accredited University pursuing Ocean Sciences, Marine Biology, or similar field
• Strong verbal and written communication capabilities with the ability to communicate scientific information in a clear and understandable manner
• Adaptable and enthusiastic about a startup environment which includes wearing multiple hats, a can do attitude and striving for a shared goal
• Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
• Be passionate about advancing innovative technologies, making an impact and scaling a startup company
• Willingness to work irregular hours
• Boating experience, particularly a certification in Small Vessel Operator Proficiencies (SVOP), is an asset
• Class 5 driver's license an asset

Conditions:

This is an 8-month co-op position based in Victoria, BC starting in January 2023.
