Position Summary
The
Chief Stewards
is responsible for overseeing all onboard hospitality, guest experience, and administrative operations across CAC's Research Explorer Vessels, while also providing standby support for superyachts, megayachts, and private expedition clients. This position demands an accomplished professional with extensive expertise in ultra-luxury yachting, submersible operations, and high-level client relations within the UHNW, corporate, and scientific sectors.
The Chief Steward ensures seamless five-star service delivery, efficient coordination of complex charter logistics, and professional management of crew and vessel operations. The role also supports CAC's global adventure expeditions, oceanographic research initiatives, and high-profile film and documentary productions.
Core Responsibilities
Communicate and manage closely with the captain, chief mate, chief engineer, chef and land-based team before, during and after charter voyages and research operations, maintenance and inspections.
Manage and oversee all onboard hospitality, provisioning, and guest service operations across CAC's fleet.
Collaborate with Captains and crew to ensure all inspections, training, and certifications remain compliant and current.
Coordinate high-level charters, private client bookings, and partnerships with global corporations, research institutions, and exclusive membership programs.
Oversee submersible and dive operations logistics, including support vessels, floatplane, and helicopter coordination.
Lead administrative and financial reporting for vessel operations, provisioning, and budgeting.
Ensure full compliance with Transport Canada, DNV, ABS, and international maritime safety and environmental regulations.
Maintain exceptional guest experience standards for UHNW clientele, ensuring privacy, safety, and satisfaction.
Actively engage in corporate governance, strategic planning, and investor relations.
Support business development, marketing, and international client communications in multiple languages.
Qualifications & Requirements
Certificates:
Canadian Transport Canada Chief Steward Certification (required)
Polar Operations Certification (required)
STCW Endorsements (current)
Passenger Safety Management
Ship Security Officer Course
Marine Advanced First Aid
Risk Management & Safety Awareness
Food Safety Management
Experience:
7-10 years in the super-luxury expedition or megayacht industry (30m-100m vessels).
Proven management experience overseeing multiple vessels with submersibles, toys, and chase boats.
Track record managing portfolios exceeding $1B annually.
Experience with UHNW clients, Fortune 500 companies, and global research or documentary partnerships.
Previous Arctic and Antarctic expedition experience required.
2-3 years in the heavy marine or offshore commercial industry (preferred) as well.
Skills:
Exceptional leadership, organization, and guest service acumen.
Strong financial and strategic planning capabilities.
Multilingual proficiency (English required; French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Norwegian, Arabic, or Russian preferred).
Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Strong technical literacy (Word, PDF, procurement/ship supply management programs).
Extensive travel aboard vessels, tenders, helicopters, and submersibles.
Flexible work hours and long expeditions in remote or extreme environments.
Physically fit, capable of long durations at sea, and must not be prone to seasickness or airsickness.
