Who we need We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Bill of Manufacture, including Routing, Bill of Materials, and Instructions to ensure compliance with the approach to manufacturing and support for management of change notices throughout the life cycle of the production order. There are five key functional responsibilities associated with this position: Resource, BOM and Routing Definition; Item Master Confirmation; Plan Release to Production; BOM Change Management and KPI Analysis and Communication. Resource, BOM and Routing Definition responsibilities will include maintenance of plan templates and reconciliation to estimates and standards to confirm completeness. Inventory and Phantom Master File maintenance responsibilities will include new part creation, coordination with other functional teams to ensure completeness of key characteristics/standards and updates based on change control triggers. Plans Release to Production responsibilities include coordination and communication of the release to support production and procurement planning. Change Management responsibilities include the review, updating, maintenance and communication of Date Changes, QTY Changes, BOM changes to Production, Warehouse/Inventory Control and Procurement to ensure the impact on existing commitments are properly managed. You will focus on: MASTER FILE MAINTENANCE
  • Define and maintain key production master files to support inventory planning and tracking through the manufacturing process. The files include:
  • Item Master
  • Phantom
  • Process Plans
  • Job Plans
  • Ensure BOM\xe2\x80\x99s are associated with the correct sequence/cost center to support material allocations and planning.
  • Manage BOM import files to support plan development and address issues and errors as required.
  • Coordinate with estimating and cost accounting to ensure process BOM\xe2\x80\x99s reconcile to support cost analysis and standards development as required.

PLAN RELEASE

  • Participate in First Off review with Quality Team to confirm plans are production ready.
  • Coordinate the release of Plans to support manufacturing and procurement requirements.
  • Communicate updates to plans as additional BOM\xe2\x80\x99s are released and ensure appropriate files are updated.
  • Works with Business Unit and Scheduling to develop plan structure to support forecasts and long lead-time purchases.

CHANGE CONTROL

  • Review and assess impact of BOM changes issued by Design on process plan, including state of production process, estimating/costing, inventory and procurement relative to the item(s) change.
  • Update the relevant files with the BOM Change (Process Plan, Order Plan, Item Master, Phantom Master).
  • Communicate to team impacted to ensure correct BOM is used in the manufacturing process.
PRODUCTION REPORTING AND ANALYSIS
  • Reviews completed jobs flagged with exceptions to assess root cause and corrective actions.
  • Monitors and analyzes production reporting (direct, indirect hours, rework).
  • Coordinates/performs time studies to support routing.
  • Prepares analysis to support Cost of Quality (rework time, materials)
  • Reviews metrics to measure material management and planning effectiveness
  • Generate, review and validate Summary Sheets, Process plans for every job to ensure all items required are loaded and quantities are accurate are in-sync with the BoM
You have:
  • The education and experience. Bachelor\'s degree (B. A.) or College diploma in a relevant discipline (Technical discipline); and 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in leading others; experience with meeting facilitation. Although not required, diploma in APICS CPIM and/or Supply Chain Management Certification an asset. Although not required, Process improvement experience / training such as Lean, Six Sigma, or PDCA is an asset.
  • The technical skills. You are proficient with ERP and project management software as well as Microsoft Excel and extremely comfortable developing macros, using VLOOKUP, Index/Match, and PivotTables to work with data; intermediate to advanced knowledge of order processing systems. Experience interpreting CAD and working with Smartsheet and Power Query / BI would be an asset.
  • The solution-oriented approach. You have an ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. You can interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. You are metrics driven with strong analytical skills and the ability to work with statistics to conduct root cause analysis to assess short-term and long-term production and operational impact.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have flexible and effective communication skills, and you can build internal and client relationships. You are comfortable facilitating meetings, proposing ideas, and presenting to senior managers. You are comfortable reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
