The Vicinity Motor (Bus) Corporation (Previously Grande West Transportation Group) is a Canadian bus manufacturer which designs, engineers and manufactures mid-size buses for transit authorities and commercial enterprises. The Vicinity bus is available in a variety of models powered by clean diesel or CNG, designed with affordability, accessibility and environmental responsibility in mind. Further to this, as a part of the global transition to sustainable transportation, the Vicinity Motor Corporation will be introducing the Vicinity Lightning EV bus, as well as a line of Electric Work Trucks.

We are seeking a mechanical manufacturing engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing quality control measures with contract manufacturer. He is also responsible for interpreting engineering data, and working with internal team for all external feedback. The candidate must have a strong technical background in mechanical engineering, with experience in manufacturing processes, quality control, and project management.

Role Overview

VMC\xe2\x80\x99s Engineering group is looking for a skilled and motivated, Manufacturing Engineer to assist the development and implementation of our new generation of EV bus and truck with contracted manufacturing partners. The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the engineering Manager.

Depending on the project, your responsibilities will include:

  • Review assembly drawings and test specifications and markup feedback to design team.
  • Identify design improvements for DFMA, and communicate effectively back to design team.
  • Review FMEA analysis, and produce or update process documents (Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Control Plan, Work Instructions, and Checklists).
  • Design, source, and validate tools, jigs, fixtures and test equipment (including drafting requirements, RFI, RFQ, conducting GRR and time studies) under guidance.
  • Review contractor\xe2\x80\x99s manufacturing processes to produce automotive parts and components.
  • Work closely with production teams to identify and resolve manufacturing issues and process deviations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring problems
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback to ensure manufacturability and quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product launches and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and quality standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to promote a culture of operational excellence
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all processes, procedures, and engineering changes.
  • Open to travel up to 20% of the year to contractor sites, facilitating installations and handoff to customers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering within the automotive industry
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, process design, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong technical background in manufacturing processes and equipment, quality control, and project management
  • Experience with CAD software and other engineering tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Knowledge of regulatory and quality standards for the automotive industry
