About the Role
Dance Arts Institute is seeking a Managing Director.

Working under the direction of the Board of Directors, and in collaboration with the Artistic & Pedagogical Director, the Managing Director will co-create, operationalize, and promote the overall vision and direction of Dance Arts. The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of all programs of Dance Arts Institute on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities

  • Leads all financial management duties, including annual budgets, cash flow tracking, reporting on year-to-date positions and projections for year-to-go, managing of accounts payable and receivable, payroll, banking, annual audit, CRA reporting, etc.
  • Leads, in collaboration with the Artistic & Pedagogical Director and department leads, the planning for annual budgets and long-term financial picture, identifying opportunities, risks, and recommending solutions to drive revenue growth.
  • Contributes to the development and leads the operational execution of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plan.
  • Responsible for hiring, managing, training, and developing the administrative staff, maintaining strong relationships with all personnel, developing, maintaining and following internal HR policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the Artistic & Pedagogical Director, prepares and submits all grant applications; ensures the submission of all funding obligations and reporting; and maintains liaison with appropriate government granting agencies.
  • Oversees development of fundraising strategic priorities in line with the strategic plan and in response to organizational needs, and leads all fundraising activities, including corporate, foundation, individual, endowment, special events, and other streams of private sector fundraising.
  • Oversees and supports the building and implementation of the overall marketing & communications strategies (incl. events, PR, publicity, social media, etc), as well as execution working closely with the Communications & Engagement Manager
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the Board and the organization, attends and prepares for all Board meetings and committee meetings, as required.
  • Works closely and provides direction to the Production & Operations Manager to collaborate and meet the operational needs of the facility.
  • Acts as the main liaison between Dance Arts and the building landlord and other peer tenants.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with all stakeholders including staff and faculty, students, donors and potential donors, and funding bodies and government agencies.
Requirements: Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a visionary individual, capable of supporting current programs and generating long-term sustainable revenue growth. They will possess:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in arts administration.
  • Excellent financial management and bookkeeping skills and experience, including the development and tracking of annual budgets and long-term financial pictures.
  • Experience fundraising at all levels, from creative fundraising campaigns to direct engagement with donors.
  • Proven abilities in grant writing.
  • Experience with marketing & communications, particularly PR and social.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate and establish strong relationships with staff, peers, donors, board members, government bodies, and key stakeholders.
  • Experience managing people and building rapport.
  • Experience in the performing arts industry is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a post secondary school and/or educational environment with students is considered an asset.
