CMLS Financial, one of Canada's largest Commercial lenders, is looking for a Manger, Underwriting to join our growing team. As a Manager, Underwriting, you will lead and manage the Underwriters and Funders in our Vancouver office. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate adjudication and closing of residential loans, in addition to maintaining service level agreements, resolving escalations, partnering with the sales team to build and promote broker relationships, and identifying best practices.

Our ideal candidate will bring a strong mentoring and coaching approach to a team with diverse levels of underwriting experience, and proactively identify training and development needs to ensure performance excellence. As this is a new role for CMLS, our successful candidate must be dynamic and flexible with an understanding that job duties may change as the role evolves and is more clearly defined.

About the Role

  • Manage resources to effectively distribute work between team members to meet or exceed established SLA's
  • Ensure that team members understand and adhere to all applicable policies and guidelines
  • Identify best practices and opportunities to improve internal processes and procedures
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of CMLS products and market conditions and advise team members of changes and trends
  • Handle escalations and ensure that the appropriate resolution is provided
  • Build and maintain broker relationships
  • Build, analyze and monitor servicing reports in order to identify trends and develop action plans as needed (staffing and business metrics, etc.)
  • Participate in audits and QA reviews
  • Provide leadership, motivation and inspiration to team members in order to promote the achievement of goals and objectives
  • Ensure team members adapt our Customer Forward approach when providing service to clients
  • Work with the Director to develop and implement appropriate objectives, metrics and performance standards for team members
  • Participate in the internal hiring and performance review processes
  • Identify performance gaps and develop performance improvement plans as needed
  • Develop staff, identifying opportunities for growth, providing suitable career paths and building bench strength for the organization
This role is for you if you:
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a Residential underwriting environment and minimum 5 years of Residential underwriting experience
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain a positive team environment
  • Proven ability to implement and manage change initiatives
  • Passion and willingness to coach and mentor staff
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in decision making process
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Highly organized with past experience managing projects, team workflows and day-to-day activities
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Excel applications (PowerPivot an asset)
