Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Student Health & Well-Being, the Manager, Student Wellness Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the student health and wellness services, including medical and mental health staff (nurses, contract physicians, counsellors, health promoters) at all campuses to enhance student safety and well-being across the student lifecycle and in response to diverse student needs. The role includes leadership and planning, overall budget review and responsibility, service integration, provision of clinical services to students through a culturally relevant and responsive lens, operational management/administration (facilities, equipment and employees), effective staffing, team collaboration, regulatory compliance with clinical standards and protocols, and leading continuous quality and cost improvements. The role is very compliance driven and requires service innovation to meet the changing needs of our environment and the diversity of our students' lived experience(s). The Manager builds and maintains exceptional partnerships and serves as an adviser to faculty, staff and students in regard to physical and mental health care support services. The Manager works closely with Student Affairs, Academic Faculties, Student Union and contract physicians as well as other community partners such as local Public Health units and other community service providers.


What You'll Be Doing




Managing operations of the student wellness services at all campuses, including operations of Student Health Centres and Counselling & Health promotion operations; Providing leadership in the areas of service delivery excellence, program development, continuous improvement, relationship management, clinical supervision, reporting, and compliance; including recruiting, records procedures and other employment related activities (e.g. administration of attendance management, performance management and training requirements); Ensuring all regulated staff (nurses, counsellors, health promoters) demonstrate competency in their roles and are given the opportunity to continually enhance their competency by engaging in reflective practice and participating in both formal and informal PD opportunities: Supervising the Nurse Practitioner/Admin Lead to ensure appropriate staffing levels; Providing clinical and operational supervision to professional counselling staff, ensuring appropriateness of mental health service delivery to students and compliance with regulatory obligations; Supporting the Director in ensuring health & well-being services at the College stay current in relation to all health related issues by working with Peel and Halton Public Health; Ensuring compliance of all legislative requirements and monitoring developments in health care as applied to individuals, public or professional practice, to ensure Sheridan compliance; Compiling monthly statistics, reporting and documentation as required or requested by either Sheridan or the Ministry; Monitoring measurements to demonstrate the efficacy of programming; Collaborating to develop policies and operating procedure manuals and clinical guidelines for service staff; collaborating to develop a system to maintain inventory levels and security control of medical supplies (including: drugs, vaccines, minor equipment, medical supplies, etc.) and ensuring quality assurance programs relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment; Developing and implementing budgets (including building budget, costing activities and monitoring/addressing variances); Optimizing financial performance and resource allocation; Managing equipment maintenance; Writing documentation and business cases for maintenance and Capital items; Overseeing inventory records for all equipment and materials; Establishing/enhancing strategic, external and internal partnerships to support and enhance student well-being; Developing appropriate external linkages/partnerships with the community (e.g. local health facilities), medical community, educational institutions to optimize health care at Sheridan; Remaining current on issues within the medical (nursing) field; Engaging in professional activities and associations at local, provincial and national levels; Liaising (internally) with other members of Student Affairs, other Sheridan departments and student services to facilitate coordinated and effective health service delivery; Building internal partnerships with Academic Faculties to understand their needs related to student well-being and to impart knowledge; Representing Health Services on Sheridan committees, as required; Participating or designating and consulting with designate on Health and Safety Committee when applicable; Leading the strategic planning, development, and implementation of physical and mental health programs and initiatives including program evaluation, program improvement and quality service with alignment to the strategic direction of Student Affairs department & Sheridan; Supporting the enhancement of Student Heath & Well-Being services at Sheridan; Supporting strategic implementation for Health & Well-Being Services based on institutional, academic and Student Affairs' plans and vision; Projecting future needs and formulating strategies consistent with projections; Serving as a consultant to all staff regarding student health; Performing other related duties, projects and initiatives, as required.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:




Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Nursing or other related discipline, OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with registration in Ontario of Nurses Ontario; Must be Registered Nurse with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario or Registered Social Worker in good standing; 5 years relevant clinical experience in a student, health care or community services setting, driving clinical excellence and delivering high standards of client/patient care and clinical service. + Excellent knowledge of legislation and regulations associated with health services provision
+ Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and metrics for decision making purposes (evidence focussed)
+ Financial acumen and budgetary skills
+ Change leadership; Ability to develop and implement progressive, improvement initiatives
+ Experience as a practitioner, clinician, educator and/or manager in a post-secondary setting, and working with your adults, will be considered an asset
