JOB DESCRIPTION

Provides architectural leadership and is accountable for the conceptual development and implementation of corporate Architectural and Building Systems, Standards and Design Guidelines. Provides technical advice regarding the architectural design for major construction, renovation and maintenance projects in all CPC - occupied buildings. Is the corporate architectural authority for buildings,and is accountable for the related standard of quality for all buildings and related systems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Real Estate Architect.

1. Coordinates and integrates the various design disciplines in the preparation of the building program for major projects, working closely with the client group, members of the Project Delivery team and other corporate functions. Exercises professional architectural judgement in the delivery of major projects in order to achieve the objectives of the client, as well as other Real Estate, Corporate and Regional groups

2. Leads the development of corporate building standards and guidelines, in conjunction with the Managers for Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and Sustainable Design.

3. Provides terms of reference for professional consultant requirements, and provides advice and recommendations on consultant selection, working in cooperation with Sourcing Management.

4. Coordinates the reviews and approves final consultant designs for major projects confirming the recommended implementation regarding best design practice. Ensures cost efficiencies have been carried forward to the final design are within or better than industry norms. Continuously seeks and identifies cost efficiency opportunities based on industry benchmarks and technological advancements.

5. Is the design authority within Real Estate for national programs and major projects for architecture and interior design. Provides mentoring support to the other technical resources of the Project Delivery team, as well as the Regional Real Estate managers.

6. Provides support to the regions in the resolution of warranty or other disputes by conducting analysis, soliciting professional opinions and consulting with Legal Services with regard to process and strategy. Investigates problems in existing buildings and takes or recommends corrective action.

7. Provides support and advice to the regions in the development of asset management plans. Provides technical reviews of the property management firms and project management companies.

8. Develops and maintains good working relations with clients, consultants, agents, principals and professional organizations. Provides training to clients related to the design process and the development of user requirements.

9. Ensures that the concepts and principles of quality management are followed in the design processes used to deliver building projects throughout CPC.

10. Through monitoring and audits, ensures that the integrity of the design process is maintained in an outsourced and decentralized project delivery business model.

11. Remains up-to-date with technological advances in building design and initiates action to incorporate new building technologies within CPC design directives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • University degree in Architecture.
Experience
  • 3-5 years\' of revelant functional experience;
  • (if managing a team) 2 or more years experience managing people;
  • One ore more experience years of experience in unionized environment an asset
Other Candidate Requirements
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Designation and certifications programs may be required for certain positions (e.g. Finance & Engineering)
  • (If managing a team) Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience
  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgment and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
