Job Summary The Manager, Quality and Analysis is responsible for bringing multiple streams of data together (operating metrics, motive power, crews, capacity constraints, capital investment opportunities, marketing forecasts) to assist CN\xe2\x80\x99s senior leaders in making informed decisions by providing them with statistical analyses. This is a key role in the Network Operations team, as the incumbent must provide accurate and time-sensitive data reporting analysis. The position educates various functions on the utilization of operating metrics to support operating plans, changes and other decisions. Moreover, the role acts as a business lead on projects with I&T and external software vendors. Main Responsibilities Operating Measures Expertise
  • Act as CN\xe2\x80\x99s Subject Matter Export on operating measures and information resource for Transportation, Finance, Mechanical, Regulatory, Public Affairs and I&T
  • Bring an expertise for operation reporting practices and corporate organization hierarchy
  • Understand and interpret vague or complex questions to be answered
  • Understand the operating performance and use a data driven approach to guide senior leaders to identify issues and potential solutions
  • Work closely with I&T to create specifications for new and existing operating measures
Operations Analysis
  • Provide analytical expertise to CN senior leaders, Transportation, Finance, as well as other departments
  • Identify key trends that impact productivity, and develop solutions to provide insight to complex questions or situations
  • Provide investigatory insight and support for analysis
  • Support P3X (Precision Planning Process) for asset requirements
Target Setting
  • Develop corporate operating targets for train, terminal, and asset productivity
  • Review targets by using in-depth historical analysis and forward-looking factors (e.g. volume forecast, capacity improvement strategy, operating plan changes, and external factors)
  • Provide guidance to senior leaders and explain the factors affecting forecast performance with supporting evidence
Tool Innovation
  • Coordinate staff and I&T resources to develop innovative tools and reports to increase the efficiency of Network Operations, Transportation, and other related Business Units
  • Understand the business needs, improve processes and specifications, and implement solutions
  • Manage the day-to-day workload of the Quality and Analysis team
Working Conditions The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work weekends when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role requires minimal travel to Montreal in order to engage the I&T team. Requirements Experience Operations
  • Minimum 5 years of operations analysis experience
    • Experience in operational analysis
    • Experience in operational research
    • Exposure to field operations in the railway industry*
  • Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Operational Research

  • Knowledge of CN rules and regulations, as well as operating systems such as SRS (Service Reliability System), and reporting processes*
  • Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
