Position Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, manages the Faculty store and all Faculty procurement according to Procurement Services' new strategic methods. Advises researchers and lab directors, and negotiates competitive contracts to purchase chemical, biological or radioactive products and the equipment and materials needed to teach science or conduct scientific research. Functions as the procurement officer for the Faculty, in the same manner as colleagues in Procurement Services, for purchases up to $50,000.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Plans and organizes faculty procurement taking into account market complexity, product and supplier evaluation, quality and after-sale service, in compliance with University policy and new strategic approaches to procurement.
  • Negotiates with suppliers to obtain the desired merchandise quantity and quality at the best price, taking into account transportation, taxes, service fees and customs clearance. Resolves major problems with suppliers, as well as with professors, students and alumni.
  • Plans work distribution for staff under own responsibility. Ensures that essential store services (purchases, customer service, merchandise reception, delivery, invoicing, transportation and shipping, monitoring of back orders, invoice payment and inventory) are accomplished efficiently within the desired time.
  • Ensures that the store operates in compliance with federal and provincial legislation on workplace health and safety, environmental protection, transportation of dangerous material, etc. Ensures that store staff have the necessary training to comply with the legislation in effect.
  • Manages all special projects associated with faculty procurement (database changes for inventory, purchases with SciQuest software, etc.).
What you will bring:
  • Excellent knowledge of procurement principles and practices normally acquired through a college or university program, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification in procurement or buying (Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) certification is preferred).
  • Demonstrated skill in using advanced tools, such as e-procurement, inventory systems, financial systems.
  • Experience in managing a large inventory or stores.
  • Experience in managing human resources.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of Bill 122.
  • Knowledge of inventory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of products and equipment used in the scientific experiments and basic.
  • Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry.
  • Knowledge of regulations and practices that apply to the safe handling of hazardous products.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation on occupational health and safety, environmental protection and the transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices involved in managing stock levels and goods.
  • Knowledge of how taxes and customs duties are applied.
  • Proven customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent language skills in both French and English (spoken and written).
