About Us
The Resource Sustainability Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture is responsible for the Nova Scotia dykeland system comprised of 81 agricultural marshes, 240 km of dyke, 250 aboiteaux, and 17,000 hectares of protected land. In addition to protecting highly productive agricultural land, the dyke system protects high value assets such as highways, communities, railway, windmills and cultural sites. This provincial dykeland system is considered critical infrastructure.
Nova Scotia Dykeland Systems Upgrade Project:
About Our Opportunity
In 2019, an 8-year, almost $50 million project began to upgrade some of the most vulnerable sites in the province. This project will protect natural infrastructure that's primarily for public use. Without upgrades, the sites are at high risk of damage from climate change.
Primary Accountabilities
This position supports capital project management under the Disaster Mitigation Adaptation Fund (DMAF), Dykeland System Upgrades Project (DSUP) focused on strategic engineering upgrades to Nova Scotia's coastline along the Bay of Fundy.
In addition the position will lead the team through design and construction providing direction and expectations to complete the project deliverables.
Works carried out on the Nova Scotia dykeland system requires a particular skill set to ensure the knowledge, experience, and understanding of the complexity of this environment is respected. This which ensure the work carried out will be functionally possible, meets the standards required for dykeland protection, as well as ensuring projects are built according to design standards.
Qualifications and Experience
You have a Bachelors' Degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural preferred) and are registered with Engineers Nova Scotia. Masters in Engineering considered an asset along with leadership/management training and experience.
As the ideal candidate, you are a self-motivated individual who works well independently with minimal supervision. You have proven and professional communication skills, both oral and written, for collaborating with staff, other government agencies, consultants, contractors and the public. You have well developed planning and organizational skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and adapt in this fast-paced environment with competing priorities. You maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service.
Experience in heavy civil design and construction, dams, earthworks, or drainage is considered an asset.
