Reporting to the Senior Manager Surface Operations and Closure, the Manager Projects and Surface Operations is responsible for overseeing the site\'s Projects and Surface Operations teams along with associated performance, risks and expenditures for the purpose of achieving the strategic operational plan and project deliverables. The role has three key reporting streams: Project Engineering, Construction Execution and Surface Support Operations

Located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a 4 days on/ 3 days off rotational schedule. This role will require the successful candidate to reside in Hay River, NT or Yellowknife, NT. If the successful candidate does not reside in these areas, a flexible relocation plan will be offered.

The Main responsibilities will be:
  • Championing a safe working culture and actively support Rio Tinto HSE standards.
  • Leading and driving the operational excellence of the integrated surface operation team, covering the following areas:
  • Surface ore and waste haulage from surface stockpiles to and from the Process Plant.
  • Owner executed earthworks scopes.
  • Contracted construction scopes.
  • Site road maintenance.
  • Airport Operations.
  • Water treatment, Sewage Treatment
  • Waste Management
  • Fuel and petroleum product storage and distribution
  • Delivering timely and quality key technical and planning outputs of the team including integrated mines plans, drill and blast design, construction execution plans.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of key construction personnel and contracting partners.
  • Planning and managing operational and capital budgets.
  • Analyze and report budget and cost variations to contribute to strategic decisions.
  • Monitor, manage and report all relevant project performance indicators to meet business requirements.
  • Coordination of procurement and contracting activities.
  • Work closely with closure readiness and operations stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to closure post commercial operations.
  • Driving improvement and innovation and adapting to changing mining and business requirements.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Mining, or Civil Engineering.
  • Registered or are eligible to register as Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum 15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in surface mining operations and project delivery in progressively more responsible positions that include exposure to operations, maintenance and engineering.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Northwest Territories Mine Supervisor Certificate \xe2\x80\x93 Level II.
  • Ability to successfully lead change and drive operational excellence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating technical information for the target audience from senior leaders to operators.
  • Ability to manage a broad range of tasks, priorities and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and influence in a matrix organization to deliver value.
  • Experience supervising professional and technical staff and contractors.
  • Strong planning, organizational, management and communications skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental standards and legislations.
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics and be committed to safety.
  • Ability to maintain standards of conduct and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of key mining software packages.
Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
