Job Description


Overview:
To provide team leadership to the Plant Operations work unit in coordinating the operations of Yellowknife, Behchoko, and hydro sites plants. Assist the Director, Hydro Operations Region in planning and directing regional goals, objectives and programs as one of six managers in a team managed organizational structure.


Under the direction of the Director Hydro Operations: Leads the daily operation of the Plant Operations; is responsible to ensure the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization are articulated and understood by employees. Must lead the staff towards the achievement of the divisional goals and objectives. Operates as a supervisor for direct reports, which includes, setting objectives, assigning duties, assessing and managing individual performance, with the aim of delivering results Responsibilities:

  • Manages plant operations in the Yellowknife, Behchoko, Snare and Bluefish hydro sites. Responsible for conducting plant inspections, overseeing operations, contracts for supplies & services, scheduled air charter, camp services including addressing environmental and safety issues.
  • Responsible for identifying preventative and on-going maintenance needs for Plant Operations work and communicating these needs to the Managers of, Mechanical & Electrical in a timely and organized manner.
  • As a member of the Hydro Operations management team provides input to the Director regarding the development and evaluation of short and long term operational, capital, and strategic plans and budgets and assists in the preparation of planning and budget documents for corporate submission.
  • Works closely with the Manager, System Control and Hydro Planning and the Director, Health, Safety and Environment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all power plants in the North Slave area.
  • Ensure compliance in operating conditions for various regulatory requirements both land & water, health & Safety, and corporation policies.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education such as: Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical, registered as a Professional Engineer), Technologist (Electrical or Mechanical, registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist through ASET), or Journeyperson Red Seal (Electrical, Power Systems, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Millwright) required.
  • Minimum of seven years\' experience in your educational discipline required.
  • Minimum of three years\' directly related experience in an electrial utility required.
  • Minimum of five years\' supervisory or management experience required.
  • Excellent organizational skills would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in administrative and financial planning procedures to provide sound advice and recommendations regarding the development, implementation and monitoring of area plans and operating budgets.
  • Must have good working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills to collaborate effectively with the customer service group in setting and accomplishing work objectives, and in maintaining cooperative working relationships with other Managers, area staff and head office in meeting group and area objectives.
  • Proven communication, customer service, public relations skills and experience to establish and maintain effective communication with residential and commercial customers, government and regulators.
  • Must undergo a successful criminal records check.
  • NWT Class 5 divers license or equivalent required.

Salary for this position ranges from $56.82/hr-$71.02/hr. plus location and accommodation allowances of approximately $8,842 per annum.
