We are a tight-knit team of seasoned professionals who design, engineer, build, and integrate premium BESS solutions across North America. Summary Currently, we are seeking a Manager of Engineering. This individual will be responsible for the overall Engineering Department, supporting both the Project and Controls engineering teams.
Project engineering encompasses all project-related hardware, engineering, design, and delivery for specific BESS projects, which in turn includes control panels, switchgear, and electrical integration.
Controls engineering includes all major site control functions, application controls, interfaces, and remote monitoring functions.
The Manager of Engineering will execute on major corporate goals by determining and achieving technical targets, generating and executing on resource plans, and managing resources assigned to the engineering team. This individual will provide overall technical guidance to the department, utilizing their broad operational experience to provide detailed direction to the technical team, and will also provide mentorship to team members, supporting the technical and professional growth of the team. Key Responsibilities
Responsibility for Engineering Department operations including scope definition, establishment of KPIs, and development of team hierarchy and resource management strategy
Responsibility for the development, engineering, design, and deployment of equipment hardware required for project delivery, which include, but not limited to, the following scope:
Integrated battery systems, cabinets or containerized systems
DC Switchgear including isolation and circuit protection
PCS hardware including inverter and DC/DC converters, and any balance of plant as required
Controls panels covering auxiliary power distribution, hardware and network controls
Fire safety systems including mechanical (ventilation, dry pipe, deflagration) and electronic controls
Responsibility for the development, deployment, and support for Software Controls Products, which include, but not limited to, the following scope:
Core site control architecture for core BESS controls
Driver development for individual third party controllers (i.e. Battery BMS, Inverters, Converters, PLCs, GFIs\xe2\x80\xa6etc.)
Site application controls including thermal and power control
Application controls development including microgrid controls, scheduling, and remote dispatch
Remote monitoring platform to support O&M, preventative maintenance, performance benchmarking, and customer portals
Following overall corporate goals related to project delivery, feature development, and budget, generate and execute on an overall resource deployment plan
Direct management responsibility of Engineering Team Resources, including HR administration, day to day tasking, providing technical guidance, and mentorship
Participate in the design of the electrical system architecture including instrumentation, PLCs, HMIs, networking, power distribution and protection, according to the requirements described in the control philosophy and narrative documents
Determine and execute on research and development testing requirements according to overall corporate goals, including the identification, deployment, and commissioning of dedicated test equipment or platforms
Determine and execute on Engineering Department performance goals
Implement process controls within the Engineer Department such as revision controls and review process
Implement cyber security plans and principles into software and network architectures
Collaborate with other project members to test and commission BESS\xe2\x80\x99, either remotely, at the factory, or in the field
Required Qualifications
At least 10 years of directly related experience to the above key responsibilities
Technical diploma/degree from a registered post secondary institution in an Electrical, Software, Controls, or Mechanical discipline
Demonstrable control software experience, specifically with Codesys-based programming languages and mechanical discipline
Experience with DC systems ranging from 48 to 1500VDC
Knowledge of NEC, CEC, UL9540 and NFPA 855 standards
Prior experience working with inverter, converter, rectifier systems
Prior experience working with energy storage devices (electrochemical batteries, flow cells, fuel cells, CAES, etc.)
Ability to work within critical project timelines with minimal supervision
Ability to adapt and learn new concepts and technologies quickly
Prior human resource management experience
Willing and able to exercise the authority entrusted in order to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities
