The Manager or Aerial Surveillance and Imaging is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of aerial data collection and processing operations. This role ensures that imagery and geospatial data products meet or exceed client specifications while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism. The Manager of Aerial Surveillance and Imaging provides leadership to technical and field operations staff, oversees training and equipment management, supports IT and digital systems, and contributes to business development and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and schedule field staff and system operators to meet operational and client requirements.
Oversee maintenance, serviceability, and upgrades of all sensors, cameras, and computer systems used in data collection and processing.
Provide technical and IT support for company systems, GPS, and digital data storage infrastructure.
Maintain and update digital manuals, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
Lead and maintain the company's social media and web presence to promote organizational growth and achievements.
Plan, coordinate, and monitor field operations, ensuring data quality and client satisfaction.
Manage departmental budgets, training programs, and operational reporting.
Research new technologies and methods to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
Ensure compliance with all safety management systems, company policies, and applicable aviation standards.
Essential Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in Geospatial Science, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in aerial data collection, GIS, remote sensing, or similar technical field operations.
Proven leadership and staff management experience, including scheduling, training, and performance oversight.
Strong understanding of sensor systems, aerial imaging technology, and data processing workflows.
Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data management systems.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data management tools, and digital documentation systems.
Valid driver's license and passport; ability to travel and work extended periods in the field.
Strong commitment to safety, quality assurance, and client service.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working in aviation, aerial survey, or environmental monitoring industries.
Knowledge of aircraft operations, flight planning, and field logistics.
Experience managing technical projects or budgets in a multidisciplinary environment.
Familiarity with photogrammetry, LiDAR, or thermal imaging systems.
Understanding of IT infrastructure, data security, and digital system management.
Experience with social media, website content management, or corporate communications.
Training or certification in occupational health and safety, SMS, or aviation safety programs.
Working Conditions / Environment
Regularly deployed to remote locations during May - September.
Irregular work hours during periods of field deployment.
Extended periods of field deployment and flight operations.
