Our established and growing client in the energy space is looking for a Manager of Accounting and Reporting for their team. This role is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and day to day accounting. This position will be responsible for financial reporting according to proper accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely preparation of consolidated financial statements. You will report into the Corporate Controller and manage a small team as well.

The duties and responsibilities of the Manager of Accounting and Reporting is as follows:

  • Responsible for the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements within the guidelines of GAAP.
  • Responsible for month-end and quarter-end close process for all corporate entities and intercompany eliminations with accuracy and on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring all information from other areas of the company has been received and reflected in the financial statements appropriately.
  • Manage the month-end closing process by preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, preparing monthly reconciliations, balance sheet account analysis and profit and loss statement analysis to ensure proper financial reporting and accuracy.
  • Ensure proper financial accounting cut off.
  • Perform and/or review account reconciliations and analysis of significant general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers ensuring proper recording of assets, liabilities, revenue and expenses.
  • Provide financial analysis to management of operating results.
  • Responsible for the coordination of, and work closely with, external auditors on quarter-end reviews, interim and annual external audits.
  • Prepare financial reporting requirements of external corporate stakeholders.
  • Lead financial research efforts in conjunction with the Corporate Controller.
  • Analyze, research and conclude on new and proposed accounting, reporting and disclosure standards issued by the regulatory bodies and prepare memorandums regarding the company\'s position and impact on the company.
  • Maintain superior knowledge of accounting guidelines and standards as well as taxation regulations applicable to the corporate group.
  • Review journal entries for general ledger coding accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Ensure that all balance sheet account reconciliations are complete and accurate.
  • Review and report on all entities\' gross margins for reasonableness compared to budget or forecasts.
  • Prepare and review other P&L expense analyses as appropriate.
  • Support the departments in managing their budgets through the provision of timely and detailed analyses.
  • Ensure that all cash management and treasury processes are adhered to by the accounting team.
  • Manage the day to day activities of the accounting staff.
  • Assist with approving payments as required.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the hierarchy of the general ledger, new accounts, departments and companies ensuring proper documentation.
  • Perform continuous assessment of all accounting departmental processes and recommend re-engineering opportunities to improve the timing and accuracy of the department\'s activities.
  • Document, Implement and maintain effective internal controls in all aspects of the department\'s responsibilities, particularly relative to the company\'s assets.
  • Responsible for essential accounting processes.
  • Participate in other projects as required.

Job Requirements:

\xc2\xb7University degree in Accounting, Business or Commerce, and a CPA designation.

\xc2\xb7Minimum 4+ years of experience in a national or international public accounting firm. Additional experience in an operational accounting department in a supervisory role will be an asset.

\xc2\xb7Experience in a regulated industry, ideally in the energy industry, also suitable are insurance, banking or pharmaceutical industries.

\xc2\xb7Thorough knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS.

\xc2\xb7Experience in accounting for foreign currency is required.

\xc2\xb7Proficiency in one or more mid-sized accounting packages is required, preferably Great Plains.

\xc2\xb7Expert level skill and experience in Microsoft Excel, including extensive experience with financial modeling and other advanced analytical tools.

\xc2\xb7Must be a team player in an entrepreneurial environment.

\xc2\xb7High level of critical and logical thinking and analysis.

\xc2\xb7Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.
