Compensation Range $5,906.25 - $8,508.42 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The Manager, Master of Business Analytics (MBAN) Student Experience has operational and strategic leadership, independent of graduate studies, for the MBAN program as well as the undergraduate portion of the B+MM Dual Degree. The incumbent works closely with the wider Student Experience team to create, implement, manage and evaluate programs/initiatives that increase student engagement and satisfaction and support student success. The Manager will also assume leadership for one or more unit-wide administrative areas in the RHL office. The Manager also works with the Admissions and Recruitment team to support their efforts to attract and retain students throughout the admissions process.

Organizational Status

Reports directly to the Director, Masters Programs. Receives direction from the Assistant Dean, Robert H. Lee Graduate School, and other members of the RHL senior leadership/management team.

As a member of the RHL management team, the Manager liaises with numerous BC Sauder and central UBC services such as Enrolment Services, UBC IT Services, UBC Bookstore, UBC International Student Advising and several UBC Sauder departments such as LTS, Canaccord Learning Commons, David Lam Library, Undergraduate Program Office, and Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre.

Work Performed

Major responsibilities fall into two key areas: 1) Program Management and Advising and, 2) Unit-wide Administrative Leadership. For each of these, the Manager, MBAN Student Experience evaluates the effectiveness of programs, services and service-delivery, policies, and processes; determines and implements changes required to improve the student experience of domestic and international students.

Program Development, Management & Advising

- Provides strategic oversight for assigned program(s), leading team in developing and implementing long-term plans aligned with school goals.

- Establishes strong relationships with student leaders and general student population through initiatives and event participation.

- Designs and implements advising program to address social and academic integration needs, advising students on various matters, resolving issues and facilitating access to support services.

- Assesses student demands and collaborates with student service areas to enhance student experience.

- Designs and implements orientation activities and resources for incoming students.

- Develops, implements and assesses administrative policies and procedures, reporting recommendations for improvement.

- Directs program curriculum changes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

- Contributes to program reviews, researches market for new initiatives, and makes recommendations.

- Manages fair application and selection process for awards and scholarships, ensuring student awareness of opportunities and timely processing of applications.

- Develops, manages, and reconciles program budgets and reports to Directors.

Unit-wide Administrative Duties

Student Engagement

- Leads the development of long-term plans to enhance student development activities, designing and delivering innovative programs and services.

- Acts as a primary contact for student societies, fostering effective peer programs and leadership opportunities.

- Collaborates with student groups for community involvement and engagement in various programs and activities.

- Collaborates with student service areas to build resources and enhance the graduate experience.

- Develops and implements programs and procedures to recognize student and alumni achievements and contributions; provides input on relevant content for the UBC Sauder website.

- Ensures alumni connection and recognition in collaboration with the UBC Sauder Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) office.

Scheduling

- Coordinates course scheduling for multiple programs and prepares enrolment forecasts.

- Manages course registration process.

Facilities and Office Management

- Ensures facilities within the Robert H. Lee Graduate wing, student lounges and classrooms meet student expectations and contribute to an enhanced learning experience.

- Leads the review of major office/classroom equipment and furniture needs and recommends changes, renovations, and training.

- Acts as the IT lead, improving digital resources and recommending new tools to enhance the effectiveness of the Student Experience Team.

- Participates in the general management of the RHL support team, including office-wide coordination of work plans, scheduling and coverage issues.

- Leads team events and cultural celebrations in support of student and team development.

- Identifies and organizes office-wide training requirements.

- Participates in staff performance reviews and disciplinary measures when needed.

Additional Responsibilities

- Provides backup coverage to other Managers on the Student Experience Team, supporting various programs and portfolios.

- Develops and strengthens relationships with faculty and employees from different campus departments for graduate student initiatives.

- Undertakes special projects assigned by senior leadership.

- Participates in faculty committees and may represent RHL and UBC Sauder on various UBC Sauder and external committees as required.

- Represents the University and UBC Sauder at public events and recruiting fairs, both domestically and internationally, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of programs and admission procedures.

- Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The incumbent makes critical decisions to design, manage, and deliver programs and services, ensuring the achievement of faculty-specific student experience objectives. The quality of programs and services directly depends on these decisions. The incumbent manages relationships with students, employees and faculty and must balance the objectives of various stakeholders with conflicting interests. Decisions must align with school goals and the university\'s vision.

Decisions impact academic program quality and student management effectiveness. Poor decisions can harm the marketability and reputation of UBC Sauder School of Business and the Robert H. Lee Graduate School, as well as the integrity of RHL graduate programs. Errors and failure to meet student expectations may damage the school\'s image and result in losing exceptional students to competitor schools. Sound decisions are crucial for maintaining the school\'s confidence, raising global ranking and reputation, accessing resources, and ensuring long-term success.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Director, Masters Programs. Works under general directives, exercises significant judgment, tact, and discretion.

Supervision Given
Hires, trains, disciplines, provides ongoing feedback and manages the day to day activities of support and temporary employees and student workers of the Student Experience Team.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Business administration degree is preferred.

Experience in the design and delivery of education programs is preferred.

Experience supervising unionized employees is preferred.

Experience in advising is required.

Proficiency using common office software.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Excellent judgement and the ability to make decisions independently.

Ability to exercise tact, discretion and diplomacy when dealing with diverse stakeholders.

Cross cultural experience is an asset.

Ability to work flexibly on weekends or weeknights may be required.

International travel may be required.
