Position Summary:





Reporting to the AVP, Innovative Curriculum (IC), the incumbent works collaboratively in a team environment within IC and across the College. The department of Innovative Curriculum is responsible for leading curriculum innovation and alignment and related initiatives, including new and renewed course development, hybrid/online course design, integration of educational technologies for learning, pathways, and other strategic institutional priorities. The incumbent will work directly with faculty and Associate/Deans to provide leadership and guidance relating to curriculum development projects.





Key Responsibilities:



Innovative Curriculum Development


+ Leads program and course teams in the design and development of new and innovative offerings, personalized pathways of learning and intersections across programs which are competency-based and modular, including assessment strategies and criteria.
+ Identifies potential micro-credentials within existing offerings as well as stackable micro-credentials.
+ Creates processes and resources to support leading-edge curriculum development and instructional design that adhere to the principles of UDL.
+ Consults with industry partners and influencers in the field to understand workplace competencies, identify needs and potential opportunities for innovation.
+ Leads various stages of the program and course design process by facilitating the curation and creation of competencies/learning outcomes, learning experiences, authentic assessments, and rubrics.

Management


+ Manages teams of curriculum, discipline, learning design, and educational technology specialists and maintains a high level of performance. Determines staffing needs and fills skill gaps through effective recruiting, development, motivation, and performance evaluation.
+ Assigns curriculum review, development, and renewal tasks to program and course developers, as needed.
+ Monitors workload of team members for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.

Quality Assurance


+ Informs the design and implementation of the curriculum management systems in order to ensure data accuracy in curriculum information.

Organizational & Project Management


+ Provides project management expertise for the development and continual improvement of curriculum development and renewal processes.
Other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:





Masters' degree in Education with emphasis on Adult Education, Curriculum Studies, Instructional Design and hybrid/online learning or relevant discipline required. Minimum five (5) years' experience directing teams, preferably in a unionized environment and leading curriculum development initiatives pertaining to new course or program development. Proven experience as a facilitator/trainer, preferably in post-secondary environment. Prior teaching and/or curriculum development experience in face-to-face, hybrid and online instruction. Experience creating learning outcomes, assessments, and rubrics within post-secondary learning environment. Demonstrated experience creating instructional components using proven quality assurance framework. Experience integrating educational technology to facilitate instruction and assessment.

Skills and Attributes:





Proven expertise using Learning Management System (preferably D2L) in the development of course content and assessments. Advanced knowledge of curriculum development, alignment, and authentic assessment strategies. Ability to integrate adult learning strategies into curriculum development and team processes. Applied and theoretical background in curriculum, instructional design strategies and competency-based learning. Familiarity with MCU frameworks and provincial educational quality assurance services (e.g., OCQAS). Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and participate in consultative decision-making. Excellent leadership skills to effectively direct teams. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to effectively manage multiple projects and deliver results within competing deadlines. Ability to coordinate and carry out long-term projects with minimal supervision. Ability to produce quality written documentation and deliver presentations and engage a wide range of audiences. Effective interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability to support individuals with a wide variety of skill sets. Commitment to inclusive practices. Focused on continuous quality improvement. Adaptable and positive in response to challenge and change. Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.
