This department is a perfect fit for those that want to be part of the future of early learning and public education in the province by supporting student learning in a progressive and responsive policy environment.About Our OpportunityEECD is committed to building a strong and stable Early Childhood Educator (ECE) workforce to support the transformation of early learning and child care across Nova Scotia.Under the direction of the Manager of Workforce Development, the Coordinator of ECE Training is responsible for the review of post-secondary ECE programs; overseeing and updating quality standards required in post-secondary ECE training programs, and drafting related policies, procedures and guidelines; leading training and assessment initiatives; working in partnership with post-secondary ECE training programs and other key partners that support a provincially regulated early learning and child care system.Primary Accountabilities

  • Maintains quality standards of post-secondary early childhood education (ECE) program delivery by revising and implementing provincial training standards and providing advice to the Department of Advanced Education (AE) with respect to ECE program content.
  • Leads the development of and revisions to standards, policy, and guidelines related to post-secondary ECE programs;
  • Leads the development of a quality assurance framework to improve ongoing quality improvement process;
  • Administers the assessment and ongoing review of post-secondary ECE programs in an objective, impartial, and procedurally-fair manner, convening, supporting, and informing the Review Committee when needed;
  • Evaluates a range of educational materials for consistency with provincial standards;
  • Provides advice to post-secondary educational institutions on policies and issues related to ECE program delivery;
  • Coordinates and administers training and funding programs related to pre-service training, resources, and specialized training initiatives for ECEs across the province;
  • Assures the effective delivery of early childhood education training and professional development support programs by developing, reviewing, and evaluating service agreement activities, grant proposals, budgets and outcomes from grants provided to post-secondary early childhood education training programs through the Department\xe2\x80\x99s ECE workforce strategy;
  • Identifies and designs programs and policies to enhance the training of provincial early childhood educators by evaluating needs and planning in accordance with provincial government objectives, including alternative programs to attain certification for work in regulated early learning and child care such as competency-based assessment and workplace training models, as well as post-diploma training in leadership and professional development specializations;
  • Consults and collaborates with internal and external partners with respect to quality and development of provincial training programs;
  • Conducts research as required to support program development including cross-jurisdictional information gathering;
  • Monitors and tracks data related to post-secondary ECE programs.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and ExperienceA university degree with majority of course work in early childhood development and education, experience and knowledge of post-secondary training in early childhood education.In addition, you possess the following:
  • Superior communication skills, interpersonal, verbal, and written, including the ability to write effectively.
  • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills, including developing and maintaining professional working relationships with stakeholders and staff.
  • Effective time management skills in relation to managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment demonstrating sound judgement, attention to detail and initiative.
  • Ability to analyze procedural and/or program problems, develop, recommend, and implement solutions as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment, and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Assets for this role include:
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • Knowledge of the early childhood education sector and qualifications and competencies required to work as an ECE in Nova Scotia.
  • Knowledge and experience in coordinating and leading projects.
