SFU International

SFU International is the university\xe2\x80\x99s hub for international relationships, knowledge and resources to enhance and mobilize the global reach of SFU\xe2\x80\x99s teaching, research and community engagement. In service to SFU\xe2\x80\x99s international engagement, we are a strong and collaborative team of about a dozen professionals committed to:

  • facilitate international strategic direction and engagement in support of institutional priorities;
  • build, maintain and continually improve institutional partnerships, opportunities, and modalities; and
  • provide service, support, tools and skill enhancement for faculties and units.
The Manager, Global Engagement

Reporting to the Director, Global Engagement the Manager works closely with representatives of the Vice Presidents\xe2\x80\x99 and Deans\xe2\x80\x99 offices, SFU Sustainability, Government Relations, Advancement and Alumni Relations, and SFU Faculties and units to promote and optimize global engagement. The Manager, Global Engagement supports the development, integration, and promotion of international partnerships, agreements, initiatives and protocol. This role is also responsible for projects and programming related to SFU International\xe2\x80\x99s key initiatives in sustainability and global development.

Qualifications:

Bachelor\'s degree in International Studies or a related discipline, and three years related experience in international/community development and intercultural community outreach, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of cultural issues, such as cross cultural communications.
  • Good knowledge of research related to the refugee experience, intercultural refugee engagement strategies and community outreach.
  • Good knowledge of immigration and refugee settlement issues and practices.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent budget administration and bookkeeping skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and promote community-facing refugee related workshops/programs/event/training sessions, and to work with partner agencies in a leadership and coaching capacity.
  • Ability to establish new relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external sponsors and organizations.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies.
  • Ability to develop communication materials and social media content.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (i.e. early mornings, evenings, and weekends).
  • Ability to arrange suitable transportation, and to work at multiple campuses and locations.
  • Ability to travel to international partner countries as required.
  • Proficient in the use of word processing, database, web-based, and spreadsheet software applications (i.e. Word, Excel).
  • Proficient in the use of desktop publishing/graphics editing and web-based presentation applications (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Proficient in the use of student information systems and software applications (i.e. PeopleSoft).
