Manager, Finance And Operations

Toronto, ON, Canada

Job Description

About FirePower Capital:
FirePower Capital is the investment banking and private capital firm built for Canada's entrepreneurs. The firm helps mid-market businesses complete mission-critical transactions.
Rapid growth in our Private Debt division requires the addition of a Senior Manager or Manager of Finance and Operations. This role is an opportunity for someone with a minimum of six years of experience, with title and compensation commensurate with experience, who wants to make a real impact on the most entrepreneurial segment of corporate lending in Canada.
Our Private Capital division provides venture or subordinated loans of $1m to $20m to fast-growing Canadian companies. Our Private Equity division looks investing controlpositions in Canadian companies with EBITDA between $1m to $5m, as well as distressed or turnaround opportunities. This role would encompass financial and operational support for both, with an emphasis on Private Debt to start. We pride ourselves in being the first name entrepreneurs think of when they ask themselves the most strategic questions they face in the most important of times.
Who we look for:
Above all, we are looking for someone who shares our values and is in it for the long haul as part of our core team.
You share our passion for challenging our clients to exceed their objectives. You act consistently, fairly, and with respect for others. You are motivated, have initiative, think creatively, and value being held accountable for both your successes and failures. You are energetic, positive, take pride in you and your team's quality of work, and demonstrate your commitment to excellence in everything you do. You are passionate about solving challenging, real world problems ingeniously, in a collaborative environment. You are focused on continuous improvement in your work and position within the organization; you believe that you will never stop learning, and are passionate about helping others do the same. You maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
Position summary:
This is a rare and unique opportunity to join a leading investment firm with an entrepreneurial vision and a fast-paced active investment focus. The successful candidate would be a team player, motivated, driven, organized, detail-oriented individual who has a desire to contribute to the larger aspirations of the firm and thrive in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate would value the advantages of a smaller, nimbler firm with a wider range of responsibilities and access to the most senior level decision making compared to a larger firm.
This position will require the individual to wear many hats providing the opportunity for an immense learning experience and will focus primarily on finance, accounting, existing company management, reporting oversight, cash management and execution, working with Limited Partners and investor queries, and a number of special projects. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic and strategic planning for the investment portfolio of the asset management arm and have direct influence over the hiring and management of additional support to aid his or her efforts.
The responsibilities, job focus, and evolution of the successful candidate's role may vary depending on the chosen candidate's strengths, fit, and aspirations. As the initial Private Debt accounting and operating functions of the successful candidate are successfully established, they will have the ability to evolve into other aspects of firm's initiatives.
Specific duties include:

  • Ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, in conjunction with our outsourced accounting firm, and preparation of various reporting.
  • Overseeing existing Private Debt portfolio companies, working with borrowers on amendments, covenants, and various needs.
  • Lead the treasury processes of the division.
  • Undertaking of various operational, administrative, forecasting, and other special projects.
  • Ensure quality of client deliverables by ensuring a strong attention to detail.
  • Mentor and develop staff and team.
  • Individuals will be given as much responsibility as their experience and capabilities permit.
Desired skills and aptitude:
  • Minimum six years prior work experience in finance, accounting or related fields. CPA is a must.
  • Outstanding ability to digest large amounts of data and succinctly communicate.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional curiosity and ambition.
  • Exceptional project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels.
  • High standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests.
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Excel
