We are looking for a Finance and Operations Manager to join our team at a Pace law firm. This position will manage our financial operations and oversee the firm\'s various facilities and budgets.
Duties and responsibilities
Finance

  • Manage, plan, and direct the financial activities of the department.
  • Oversee the staff performing billing, collections, financial reporting, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Oversee the preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts and annual budgets.
  • Ensure that law firm processes comply with provincial law society guidelines and serve as a subject matter expert on related issues.
  • Keep track of various memberships and renewals for employees associated with legal bodies.
  • Manage and maintain corporate information, registrations, and Federal & Provincial tax programs
  • Establish internal controls and guidelines for financial operations, accounting transactions, and budget preparations. Develop financial reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial and federal regulations.
  • Tax planning throughout the fiscal year and filling annual corporate tax returns.
  • Prepare business activity reports, financial statements, and forecasts. Ensuring financial and legal requirements are met.
  • Find ways to reduce or maintain costs by studying financial reports and business processes.
  • Analyze market trends to discover business opportunities and maximize profits.
  • Present recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies. Aid management in financial decisions.
  • Maintain up-to-date financial system knowledge.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, support, service, business development, regulatory, IT, finance, and various business units.

Operations
  • Communicate, advise, and make recommendations to senior management, technical support, consultants and external suppliers on the business needs and requirements of the firm.
  • Provide information & analysis to support legal teams. Make recommendations & coordinate resources. Manage & monitor deadlines, budgets & external providers.
  • Manage vendor relations and monitor opportunities for cost savings. Engage with external suppliers to review existing contracts for improvements.
  • Manage the legal department\xe2\x80\x99s case management systems and approval & payment processes. Ensure confidentiality is maintained and upheld.
  • Supervises staff on legal matter management, financial reporting/invoicing, research, and paralegal services.
  • In charge of the different Pace Law facilities.

Qualifications
  • MBA, Master of Finance or equivalent.
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience in corporations or law firms is desirable.
  • Expertise in finance, accounting and tax preparation software.
