Job Summary

The Manager, Data Platform is an essential technology leadership role for Porter organization. The role requires a unique blend of technical expertise and leadership skills, and involves responsibilities for data platform architecture, release planning and development and operations. Having a strong technical role accountable for both the data platform architecture and management ensures that there is a clear understanding of what needs to be implemented and how it is implemented.

This hybrid role will design, develop, and deliver a modular next gen data and analytics platform fueled by trusted data at the heart of the organization. The Data and Analytics platform will enable AI-powered insights so business teams can innovate products and design better processes, which drives competitive advantage and top line revenue growth.

Porter Technology team has embarked on an ambitious transformation and modernization journey. In the near term, Enterprise Data team focus is on building and upskilling the team. The successful candidate will manage a team of data developers, influence and guide data analysts, and promote the value and importance of data across the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the target state architecture and data platform roadmap / solution components (data storage, data analytics, data processing, data integration, data security and data governance)
  • Manage, grow talent and motivate a team of 8 data developers and analysts providing them with direction, guidance and knowledge to be self-sufficient and make independent decisions.
  • Engage and guide data analysts, data scientists, business data owners, development teams and third party data professionals, providing solution and integration direction, balancing short term benefits and long term responsibilities.
  • Communicate data design consideration and solution concepts to all levels of the organizations
  • Architect and design data solutions that leverage both cloud data management capabilities, bespoke and 3 party data solutions to meet business needs.
  • Manage the development, deployment, and operation of a data platform that includes databases, Data APIs, data processing jobs, data integration tools, and other components that enable data processing and analysis.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to data quality by design practices and implement data quality controls to ensure that the data stored and processed by the data platform is accurate, reliable, organized, protected, trusted, and easily accessible.
  • Implement a technology enabled approach to support uniformity, stewardship, accuracy and consistency of data.
  • Collaborate actively with project managers, on feature prioritization, platform release planning, roadmap and schedule management.
  • Partner with Engage the application development and quality assurance peers.
  • Assign the work to data teams based on Intake Process and balance the workload to ensure critical milestones are met.
  • Collaborate with other technology and solution delivery leads to evolve use for Agile/SCRUM methodologies ensuring we implement best practices across the organization.
  • Conduct backlog grooming sessions or refinement meetings to review and update the backlog with the development team. This ensures a shared understanding of the items and their priorities. Adjust the order as necessary to reflect changing priorities.
  • Manage Third-Party Relationships with third-party vendors, including cloud service providers and software vendors, to ensure they meet service level agreements and data management requirements.
  • Ensure Data Platform is secure, compliant with relevant laws and regulations, and managed according to company policies and standards.
  • Actively participates in Porter\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply with and promote the Company Safety Policy

Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in computer science or mathematics, engineering (or equivalent) preferred
  • 10+ years technology experience with hands-on data platform architecture, design, development and administration
  • 5+ years experience leading a team of 5 or more resources
  • 5+ years experience and proven extensive knowledge in the platform/solution as an Architect. Strong Knowledge of data platform architectures, that includes data security architecture, data integration, high availability and recovery patterns
  • 5+ year experience with data management, including data modeling, data quality management, metadata management, master and reference data management
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Agile development, including scoping and scaling deliverables, and using JIRA/Trello for planning and tracking team work
  • Knowledge and experience of customer data platforms, CRM platforms and real-time decision management platforms is an asset
  • Proven capability to work independently and manage multiple competing demands in a fast-paced environment where governance and practices are evolving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationship development with all stakeholders
  • Ability to understand and communicate the business impact of technical issues, identify and mitigate risks
  • Strong leadership with analytic and decision making abilities
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Experience with AWS products and services including S3, Redshift, RDS, EC2, Kinesis and Lambda
  • Experience with SSIS, ESGP
  • Experience with open source languages such as Python, Scala or R
  • In-depth knowledge and experience building database systems, data warehouses, analytics platforms, data integrations, BI reporting systems using on-premise and cloud technologies
  • Experienced with database design and architecture for enterprise systems, including distributed data and modern data architectures
  • Experience with real-time data integration, data pipes and ETL processes. Experience with Matillion product and services
  • Experience with consuming SOAP and REST API data services
