We are seeking a technology professional and leader to be our Manager, Data Engineering for our IT Data Platform Engineering Delivery team at Aviva Canada. Aviva is embarking on a data platform modernization program, and you will be leading the data engineering team and helping scale the enterprise data and AI capabilities. Further, you will be working with key line of business and IT partners to build out a Data as a Service operating model to enable access to data on demand regardless of the consumer\xe2\x80\x99s location or infrastructure our direct-to-consumer business, data science capabilities, and expand our digital footprint.

This role will be part of and a member of our Information Technology Data Platform Engineering Delivery Group. You will be responsible for leading the architecture, design, analysis, and implementation in a successful, and experienced team. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be required to apply your depth of knowledge and expertise with both modern and legacy data platforms to develop data ecosystems that will meet business requirements and align with Aviva\xe2\x80\x99s enterprise architecture goals and standards. Aviva has embarked on an exciting journey to modernize, craft, and build a next generation data platform to support the growing data needs of the business and to enable the capabilities of AI to drive business value.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

Collaborate with business and IT to develop and evolve a data engineering practice that aligns with the goal of building a modern data platform to meet todays and future growth needs of Aviva Canada.

Implement an enterprise data engineering team to support Aviva\xe2\x80\x99s data vision and align it with the larger Aviva Group data strategy.

Provide delivery expertise and leadership in data management, data modeling and database design, big data analytics solution architecture, data integration, data movement, data quality, reference and master data management.

Collaborate with Data Principals and Data Owners to define data solutions, Digital Transformation and Data & Analytics priorities and goals.

Analyze, re-architect and re-platform big data platforms to cloud based technologies and architecture patterns, primarily on cloud.

Assist in solving application problems where data, ETL, and reporting are integral elements.

Responsible for monitoring and ensuring the ongoing data quality within the data model.

Ensure a consistent approach and implementation of processes and technology in designing solutions.

Be responsible for the data definitions for all data tables and maintain data lineage.

Lead the data models for various zones in the Enterprise Data Hub like post ingestion, integration, data warehouse/marts

Communicate clearly and effectively during project execution on data models & solution designs aligned to data strategy, and data transformation.

Understand and articulate interdependencies, constraints of the data model to Data Engineers, project teams and business teams

Work will also encompass creating & developing solution designs for data acquisition/ingestion of varied data sets (internal/external), data integrations & data warehouse/marts

Collaborate with business partners, product owners, collaborators, functional experts, business analysts, IT architecture, and developers to design data models and solution designs to meet requirements

Lead solution design discussions with internal and external partners as relevant

Prepare data model & solution design documentation

Ensure sound governance and controls are in place for all data pipelines including alignment to practices and documentation standards.

Coach, mentor, and train data engineering team members to establish a consistent level of quality, accuracy, accountability, and compliance with department standards.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring

University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

Minimum 5 years of experience successfully leading the design and implementation of modern data engineering solutions and platforms within large enterprises

5+ years of experience crafting solutions for data lakes, data integrations, data warehouses/marts.

Deep experience with modern data platform tools and technologies such as Snowflake, Hadoop, PostgreSQL, Informatica, Collibra, Airflow, DBT)

Technical expertise with design and implementation of enterprise data warehouse, big data analytics platforms, master data management and data integration solutions (e.g. Cloudera, Informatica, Oracle, Snowflake)

Outstanding knowledge and experience in ETL with Informatica product suite.

Knowledge/experience in any Cloud Data Lake Design \xe2\x80\x93 preferred AWS technologies like S3, EMR, Redshift, Snowflake, Cloud Data Catalog, Collibra etc.,

Experience establishing frameworks for data quality, data governance, stewardship and metadata management (e.g., Collibra).

Understanding of reporting/analytics tools such as Qlik Sense, SAP Business Objects, SAS, DataIku, etc.

Ability to foundationally understand complex business processes driving technical systems.

Strong leadership and influencing skills at the management levels.

Ability to lead by example and coach more junior data engineering team members.

Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Strong partner management.

Solid understanding of Project and Program Management processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Canadian insurance industry knowledge is an asset.
