Purpose of Role

The Manager of Civil and Structural Engineering will be Kinross\xe2\x80\x99 global subject matter expert in the civil and structural fields. In this role they will provide support to large capital projects, sustaining capital and maintenance projects, active operations, and corporate initiatives to improve, develop, and implement policies.

Job Responsibilities
On projects, lead key technical tasks requiring civil and structural engineering input/oversight, including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks, managing resources and third party consultants. This will include both greenfield and brownfield projects.
Directing and reviewing the work of third party consultants.
Review project documents (policies, standards, specifications, calculations, drawings, etc.) to assure they meet project objectives and company strategy.
Review cost estimates prepared by third party consultants.
Interface with the Site Operations teams
Be the company\xe2\x80\x99s Subject Matter Expert in civil and structural engineering and lead related global initiatives.
Utilize software for structural engineering calculations (eg. STAAD Pro).
Review existing corporate documents (policies, standards, specifications), related to civil and structural engineering; lead the process of authoring new documents where required, and making periodic updates and communicate to staff across all sites.
Assist Supply Chain teams with technical support in procurement efforts related to packages related to civil and structural works.
Collaborate with cross functional teams, provide technical advice and support to enable key business decisions, influence others to achieve project goals often without direct authority.
Prepare business cases, capital costs and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to management
Take role of subject matter expert and support in construction and commissioning of civil and structural works. Prepare or review QA/QC plans for construction activities.
Stay abreast of changes and developments in civil and structural engineering and how they may affect Kinross; introduce new methodologies and tools to improve current practices.

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirementse
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in civil engineering or structural engineering
Licensed member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
10+ years of related work experience, including both design and field construction
Understanding of mining and processing infrastructure and equipment; and permitting requirements
Experience with several of the following sub-areas: earthworks and site grading, stormwater management, roads, geotechnical, water supply, sewage, wastewater, site utilities, foundations, structural.
Experience with engineering management of large projects. This includes development and management of scope of work, schedules, budget as well as co-ordination with engineering consultants, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders.
Experience as a discipline lead for projects of varying scope and complexity from planning to commissioning stages.
Strong in optimizing earthworks costs and contractor management
Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams
International experience
Fluency in Spanish, French or Portuguese is an asset
Personal Attributes
Strong communications and presentation skills \xe2\x80\x93 with Management, Site staff, Consultants and Contractors.
Works well both in a corporate environment as well as on site in projects and operations.
Adaptable to dynamic needs of the business.
Able to travel for frequent but short periods.
Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions, especially in situations where one does not have direct authority.
