The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Development, this position will lead on proposal development and support business development in the area of grant acquisition for the International Department of Plan International Canada.

The Manager, Business Development works closely with a diverse team of technical advisors, compliance managers and program managers to develop high quality project design and proposal support for institutional and other funders.

As the Manager, Business Development, you will lead project design, proposal writing and editing, support donor engagement and support budget development, contracting and other donor and internal programmatic, financial and compliance requirements.

This role includes coordinating and liaising closely with other Plan International offices, project partners and stakeholders to ensure proposals and related materials meet donor requirements, are clear, compelling and well-presented. The Manager will also lead the management of an automated grants pipeline, including all relevant reporting.

What success looks like?

  • Working effectively with the International Programs Department to lead on the project design and proposal development for quality funding proposals for a variety of institutional donors.
  • Actively supporting field offices through the design and development of project proposals, concept notes, expressions of interest, budgeting and contracting support, and liaising with other Plan International offices globally and regionally.
  • Undertaking desk research and incorporating feedback from Technical Advisors in the areas of health, education, economic development, gender equality, climate change adaptation and protection to ensure technically sound project design.
  • Developing supplementary materials such as briefing notes, idea notes, capacity statements, infographics and presentations.
  • Supporting efficient proposal development processes, procedures and systems, including through training, pipeline maintenance and CRM (customer relationship management) database management.
As our ideal candidate you will have:
  • Be bilingual (English/French). Spanish is an asset.
  • Have proven BD experience with project design, crafting proposals, budget, and contract review.
  • Have demonstrated experience writing for institutional donors (GAC, WB, UN agencies, etc.)
  • Have a broad-based understanding of multiple international development sectors (EDU, SRHR, GE, EE, etc.).
  • Be a strong writer with an ability to research, analyze, synthesize, and present information quickly and accurately.
  • Pay exceptional attention to detail in written materials.
  • Be a strong communicator with the interpersonal skills to build productive working relationships to produce shared deliverables.
  • Have advanced MS office skills and CRM familiarity (Salesforce preferred).
  • Be comfortable multi-tasking and have exceptional project management and organizational skills.
  • Understand RBM.
  • Have experience in budget and contracting support. Innovative finance experience is an asset.
