Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

Purpose

Team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team\'s business strategies and objectives.

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Notifications and Special Processing events, which include but are not limited to the following activities: The review of Corporate Action announcements for publishing to advisors and clients and ensure information received from depositories, custodians and other sources is accurately interpreted and the securities impacted are appropriately identified in the book of record systems, Proxy Voting, Control Account Reconciliation, Researching of Aged Securities, Class Action, Declarations, and Disclosure.

The incumbent will also work closely with the Corporate Action Management Team in the identification, initiation, research, and development of process solutions across the team, with the intent of improving overall operational efficiency/effectiveness while ensuring that compliance, risk, and regulatory issues are adhered to.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Operating independently, identifying and resolving issues with minimal oversight. Capable and comfortable operating within tight deadlines, able to make quick decisions, and able to quickly learn about the business/issues, without necessarily having any prior direct experience with the subject matter.
  • Champions a culture of continuous operational improvement by independently resolving highly complex, multifaceted problems to meet the business needs across MO with a specific focus on creating tangible/measurable operational efficiencies. This involves opportunity identification, preparing proposals, defining business requirements and processes, developing, testing, conversion implementation strategies, developing detailed project plans, monitoring progress against planned objectives, and securing consensus and co-operations from users and senior management.
  • Performing daily operational activities in support of corporate action event creation, managing time sensitive events, researching complex events, leading daily team Huddles, approving bulletin creation events and escalating issues immediately.
  • Documenting SOP\'s and providing support to the Management team on policy and procedure changes within the team.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business control to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Requirements
  • 5+ years post-graduate experience in industry or academia in the areas of capital markets, finance, and banking and/or process improvement, business analysis and solution implementation is preferred.
  • Previous people management an asset
  • Subject matter expert well versed in the entire lifecycle of all mandatory Corporate Action Events.
  • Broadridge BPS experienced user.
  • Experience with depositories and foreign custodian Corporate Action processes and procedure (CDS,DTC, BNP, HSBC, Clearsteam, Euroclear)
  • Familiar with Swift Corporate Action messaging.
  • Understanding of Tax consequences regarding Corporate Actions events (Section 302. Etc).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to negotiate, influence and
  • interact professionally with a diverse group of Front Office Users, QAs, Developers, and SMEs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytical problem solving and process engineering techniques (i.e. process mapping and analysis techniques)
  • Strong technical abilities including knowledge of basic software engineering principles (experience in SQL, VBA, Access, Excel preferred), and a sound understanding of operational processes
