This is a 12-Months contract position.

The Canadian Operations Workforce Management team is looking for a versatile leader to work on the implementation and maintenance of forecast models in a fast-paced operational environment. As a member of a dynamic and committed team of Workforce Management, the successful candidate will act as an expert and developer on a variety of forecasting projects and initiatives.

We are looking for a team leader with a strong quantitative background, a true passion for working with data, and more than 5 years of practical experience in building and implementing volume and staff forecast models.

Organization and attention to detail is key in this role, as the role provides analysis and generating forecasts used for operational decision making and continuous improvement initiatives for the senior leaders within Canadian Operations. The role directly supports multiple lines of business in Sun Life Financial Canada, by enabling a consistently high quality experience for our customers.

What will you do?

  • Formally applies statistical /scientific rigour to volume and staffing forecast.
  • Mentor and manage a team of data scientists, helping them develop their skills.
  • Organize and coordinate needs from multiple stakeholders, maintain and manage a backlog of work.
  • Ensures work provided by the Resource Planning team is thoroughly tested and mathematically sound.
  • Ensures data is accurate, timely and that results meet the clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs. Makes suggestions to improve the client\xe2\x80\x99s data driven decision making with statistical methods.
  • Ensures forecasts are updated and distributed on a periodic basis.
  • Regularly responsible for presenting results and findings to senior business leaders.
  • Responsible for ongoing development in a Continuous Improvement environment.
  • Responsible for staying up to date with relevant trends in the workforce management profession.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert or technical team lead on projects when required.
  • Work with project management leaders. Ensures their work meets required deadlines.
  • Ensures work is documented and transferable.
What do you need to succeed?
  • Minimum of Bachelor degree in Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Econometrics, or equivalent. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated data transformation & manipulation experience using Call Centre math/process (ErlangC, Simulation)
  • Experience using a variety of data analysis methods and forecasting techniques such as queuing analysis, simulation, discrete-event models, optimization, sensitivity analysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and issues associated with time series data
  • Experience measuring and interpreting forecast accuracy
  • Ability to assess model validity and appropriateness
  • Familiarity with querying/programming with experience in SQL and VBA.
  • Experience on building models on multiple toolset \xe2\x80\x93 R/Python, AWS Sagemaker
  • Should able to visualize model outcomes with other data on visualization platform like Tableau/Power BI
  • Ability to effectively present complex data adapted to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to build partnerships and develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • People-management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to produce meaningful results from data

  • Experience with analysis of unstructured data.
  • Practical leadership experience in an operational environment

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
