How will you make an impact?

Leads the management and development of the Analytical Operations Team within the Laboratory Operations Department with an emphasis on Quality, Operational Excellence and Scientific Value. The mission of the Development Operations group is to lead the provision of all services necessary for the pharmaceutical product development and worldwide registration.

What will you do?

  • Provides leadership to assigned staff by performing the following: developing and empowering staff; cultivating relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; mentors and trains Project Leads and Lab Supervisors to enable them in providing the best possible service to clients through effective communication, scientific leadership and problem solving.
  • Designs, plans and leads certain continuous improvement (PPI) projects/initiatives focusing on upgrading scientific practices / knowledge, driving best practices / standard work and/or quality initiatives.
  • Engages in client projects as needed to guide collaboration problem resolution both externally and internally.
  • Drives staff development, recruitment and performance management
  • Engages daily in oversight and guidance quality events (OOS/UR's, DR's, CAPA's) to drive on time and scientifically sound closures.
  • Engages in tactical solutions with respect to resources (personnel / equipment) in order to ensure On Time Delivery (OTD) of client deliverables.
  • Manages operational performance using key performance indicators
  • Provides technical support to Business Management, Tech Transfer, Project Management, Technical Operations and actively participates in customer projects.
  • Ensures professional development of self and staff by keeping up to date with advances in analytical pharmaceutical and regulatory developments as well as providing presentations for peers.
  • Participates in various senior analytical development and site level staff meetings.
  • Ensures good working relationships with the site management and all other departments
  • Enables growth of the Laboratory Operations Department and the Pharmaceutical Services Group (PSG) business by assisting to raise the profile of the Lab and its capabilities both with Customers and within Patheon.
How will you get here?

Education:
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related science
  • Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years' previous pharmaceutical analytical development
  • Minimum of 5 years' previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Previous method and analytical instrumentation validation experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Exceptional Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for
  • Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) and United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) compliance knowledge.
  • Ability to drive functional, technical and operational excellence.
  • Ability to inspire and foster innovation, collaboration, transparency and team effectiveness.
  • Ability to help others develop skills required in a research and development environment and helps others understand potential and areas for improvement.
  • Ability to think strategically with the ability to direct the resolution of technical problems using innovative approaches.
  • Applies data integrity and principles of Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original and Accurate (ALCOA).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), leadership ability, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications. Proficiency in the English Language.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pound pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
