Job Description


Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is a leading global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social and sustainability consulting services. We are currently seeking a Management Consultant \xe2\x80\x93 Social Performance/ Regulatory Engagement Coordinator to join our team in Vancouver, BC, Calgary, AB, Toronto, ON, or one of our other Canadian offices to support our Canadian Regulatory and Permitting team. Applicants may be based remotely but should be willing to travel occasionally to one of ERM\xe2\x80\x99s offices or to a client site, as needed. The role requires experience in the infrastructure or natural resource development sector including with the renewable energy, transportation, oil and gas, or mining sectors. The role also requires an understanding of applicable provincial/territorial and federal regulatory and permitting requirements, including understanding of how community and Indigenous communities are engaged as part of these processes. Some exposure to environmental effects analysis, and an interest in applying knowledge and skills to solve complex regulatory challenges across multiple sectors (including mining, energy, and marine transportation) in BC and Canada, is beneficial. The successful candidate will become a senior member of ERM Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Regulatory and Permitting team with ties to the Social Performance team and will be connected with ERM\xe2\x80\x99s global team of environmental and social experts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical input and guidance to team members on the application of regulatory and permitting requirements applicable to client projects, with a view to developing technical expertise across sectors and regulatory jurisdictions.
  • Work on multiple projects, supporting management and execution of scope/budget/schedule to meet client\'s expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Provide guidance on, and help coordinate, engagement activities with regulators, Indigenous groups, communities and stakeholders as part of project design and permitting processes.
  • Execute activities such as permitting strategy and application scoping, information requirements/requests, technical writing, data and regulatory research and review, collection and integration of input from ERM\xe2\x80\x99s subject matter experts, permit and environmental management plans, delegating GIS, data compilation and desktop publishing assignments to support permit applications, and develop recommendations for clients.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships between the regulatory and permitting team and the social performance team to create a strong understanding and proactive approach for engagement and best practices within the regulatory landscape.
  • Contribute to preparation of technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.
  • Partake in ERM internal and external training opportunities to maintain and grow work-related skills and remain current on changes to regulatory requirements.
  • Actively embrace and support ERM\xe2\x80\x99s leading health and safety training and workplace environment.
Depending on the skills and experience of the candidate selected, this role also may also include project management and coordination of a variety of permitting, regulatory and environmental impact assessment tasks in support of clients\xe2\x80\x99 projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRABLE SKILLS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or higher in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, or equivalent industry experience within relevant business sectors (e.g., mining, oil and gas, energy, marine).
  • Registration, or eligibility to apply to become a registered professional with a combination of academic and professional experience to be considered a Qualified Professional for oversight of and/or certifying regulatory deliverables.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial and territorial regulations and guidelines (in particular, familiarity with British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and/or Northern territorial regulations).
  • Excellent writing, communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet multiple and at times overlapping deadlines in a demanding work environment.
  • Experience working as part of an integrated team providing technical deliverables for input into environmental assessment and permit applications.
  • Experience providing direction to client consulting teams regarding permit application content requirements which contribute to successful regulatory review.
  • Understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements, compliance management and impact assessment as they relate to mining, oil and gas, green energy, and marine transportation.
  • Experience with community, Indigenous and stakeholder engagement.
  • Attentive to identifying innovative solutions to complex projects and striving for sustainable outcomes.
  • Experience in capital project management and coordination of multi-disciplinary projects and teams is a desirable asset.
  • Fluency in multiple languages (Indigenous languages, English, Spanish and/or French) is an asset.

For the Management Consultant \xe2\x80\x93 Social Performance/ Regulatory Engagement Coordinator position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $88,810 \xe2\x80\x93 $100,860 CAD. An employee\xe2\x80\x99s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
