The Social Performance Specialist will be instrumental in ensuring that De Beers is viewed as a preferred partner in the mining and minerals sector for a wide range of stakeholders, including communities, governments, non-government organizations and Impact Benefit Agreement partners. This role is well suited to one who excels at building relationships and collaborating across multiple departments to achieve deliverables. As a member of a small, fast-paced team, the Social Performance Specialist will be self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing social programs that align with an established framework;
  • Leading and chairing the Social Performance Management Committee;
  • Preparing for quarterly and annual assessments;
  • Generating monthly and quarterly reports, as required;
  • Implementing an established framework for monitoring and evaluation;
  • Collaborating across business units to create a culture of implementing best practices and learning from others; and
  • Analyzing business value and risks related to social performance activities.
Reporting to the Social Performance Manager, the role resides within the Corporate Affairs/Social Performance department. This is a Yellowknife office-based position.Qualifications
  • Legally permitted to work in Canada;
  • Diploma in Business, Commerce or Political Science;
  • Project Management Experience;
  • Practiced with social assessment techniques, including Social and Environmental Impact Assessments;
  • Previous experience with developing social impact management plans for business and operations;
  • Proven ability to identify key social performance issues, risks and impacts and integrate them into core business objectives and long-term business plans;
  • Experienced at applying international standards and industry best practices, such as the IFC Performance Standards, ICMM Good Practice Guidance and Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, specific to extractive industries;
  • Skilled communicator, who is adept at negotiation, collaboration and networking; and
  • Experience at working and travelling in and to remote communities in the Northwest Territories.
Desirable Assets:
  • Preference given to members of the Deninu Ku\xc3\xa9, Lutsel K\'e Dene First Nation, North Slave M\xc3\xa9tis Alliance, Northwest Territory M\xc3\xa9tis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation and residents of the NWT.
  • Experience delivering programs in remote communities to improve livelihoods;
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of direct work experience in an extractive industry (forestry, mining or oil & gas);
  • Experienced at developing and delivering training or professional development programs; and
  • Experienced in partnering with governments, academia, or civil society organizations at a national or territorial level.
