Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Chef the Maitre'd will be responsible for working together with all Food Service personnel and shall oversee the day to day operations of the dining room. The Maitre'd is responsible to ensure a quality dining experience for all residents. Additionally, the Maitre'd will assist in scheduling and will organize training of serving staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:



A Maitre'd shall:

1. Be responsible for adhering to Rocky Ridge (Signature Retirement Living) policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, regulations and schedules.

2. Be responsible as a team member to ensure a high standard of service is provided for our residents in the dining room.

3. Remain in the dining room during operating hours to assist serving staff and residents with their needs.

4. Evaluate standards consistent with the overall expectations of the company for meal service training, customer service and orientation.

5. Assist with the creation and maintenance of employee rotations for all Dining Room Servers

6. Work with Chef to manage master schedules in ADP ensuring accuracy.

7. Request and respond to regular feedback from residents regarding meal & beverage services. Ensure feedback from the dining room is consistently communicated to the Executive Chef.

8. Foster a good team environment - continually upgrade and share knowledge of cuisine and positive service experiences with staff. Always communicate in a positive, friendly, encouraging and approachable manner to all residents and serving staff and other colleagues.

9. Develop and maintain a list of Dining Room activities and expectations for each food services position. Including but not limited to those listed at the end of this document.

10. Assign stations daily to all serving staff, ensuring variety to serving staff allowing them to get to know the residents.

11. Continually evaluate, and training on serving procedures for consistency, efficiency and effectiveness. In collaboration with the Executive Chef, initiate new systems as necessary for the staff team or the residents.

12. Coordinate food services and the set up required for special events /activities /programming at the site.

13 Use a hands-on coaching approach to train, develop and mentor staff.

14 Ensure meal & beverage service adheres to all food safe-handling preparations.

15. Serving of meals & beverages.

16. Participate in the organizational Occupational Health and Safety Program as required.

17 Participate in the organizational Continuous Quality Improvement Program, ensuring that all assigned audits from the Executive Chef are completed in a timely manner

18 Assist the Executive Chef to ensure that all serving staff attend orientation, mandatory educational in-services, as well as any just-in-time learning that is required.

19 Be responsible for reporting any areas of concern, safety or maintenance to the Executive Chef.

20 Ensure proper storage and disposal of all food/food service products/items used in the dining room (for example but not limited to: tea, sugar, creamers, single use food items (paper plates, etc.). Keep an inventory to ensure adequate supply of single use products in collaboration with the Executive Chef.

21 Be responsible for the general organization, cleanliness and sanitation of the dining room. Ensure all required logs and checklists for the general operation/cleaning of the dining room and those areas within the kitchen assigned to serving staff are accurate and complete. Participate in regular staff meetings and in-services as required.

22 Carry out all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Training and Experience Requirements:



The Maitre'd shall possess a minimum of:

Grade 12 education or equivalency.

Minimum of one year previous experience working in a restaurant or alternate venue providing meal services.

Food Safe Handlers Course would be desirable. Training may be available for the successful candidate.

Proven management or supervisory experience. Able to maintain boundaries and confidentiality.

A flexible, willing and positive attitude together with dependability and trustworthiness.

Willingness to lead by example and be part of a dynamic team.

Experienced in dining etiquette.

Excellent communication and customer service skills with an ability to identify and respond proactively to a potential negative situation.

Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and be highly energetic.

Demonstrate empathy and have an affinity for working with a senior population.

Be familiar with Microsoft Office software.

Understanding of WHMIS requirement.

A high standard of hygiene and personal appearance.

Must be able to perform duties with minimum supervision.

Good health, a medical may be required. No history of back problems.

CPR and First Aid, if required.

Working Environment, Special Skills, Physical Demands:



The Maitre'd position shall require:

Flexibility and have the ability to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines, on occasion work under somewhat stressful situations.

The ability to stand a variety of temperature conditions.

Heavy lifting may be required at times.

Examples of Dining Room Activities: (items such as but not limited to)



Set up of various beverages, condiments, breads, salads, etc.

Participate in a pre-meal meeting with all chef's and servers to ensure service is ready.

Prepare & maintain the dining room for service.

Identify the sequence/steps of service.

Ensure Servers are following proper etiquette in serving and health safety standards.

Identify and perform all methods of service.

Assist in preparation of meal trays for ill residents. Deliver meal trays as may be requested.

Demonstrate procedures to meet and greet residents.

Explain methods used to accommodate residents.

Manage dining room floor plans.

Ensure the dining room and equipment is clean & sanitized.

Ensure tables are re-set tables for service.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.25-$22.25 per hour
