Our Team:

The Smelter, Maintenance Engineering team in Sudbury, Ontario is a multi-disciplinary, well-rounded team who involve themselves within the maintenance and operating groups at the Copper Cliff Smelter. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our operators and maintainers as well as ensuring our assets run reliably.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Maintenance, Mechanical Engineer to join our Ontario Operations Department in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

As a Maintenance, Mechanical Engineer you will be accountable for on-site technical maintenance support, engineering, screening/scoping, repair scopes of work and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Copper Cliff Smelter Complex.

In the role you will:

  • Provide on-site, maintenance engineering technical support when failure symptoms have been detected, in order, to develop the actions required to prevent a failure.
  • Provide on-site, maintenance engineering technical support following a failure, in order to have assets returned to running condition as soon possible, with a reduced likelihood of a reoccurrence.
  • Conduct/coordinate engineering filed assessments and/or integrity assessment to make sure the assets are running without defects.
  • Support operations and execution teams to conduct Continuous Improvement Projects related to operating or maintaining assets. Makes recommendations for improving the repair cycles on assets. This includes applying existing engineered solutions or Vale engineering standards.
  • Conduct initial Engineering screening and scoping for engineering requests at the site.
  • Evaluate equipment design improvements, co-ordinate with Central Engineering.
  • Evaluate new technologies for condition monitoring programs and initiatives and provide necessary input in the selection process (including vendors).
  • Coordinate with Operations, Procurement, Maintenance, Project Engineering, OEMs as required.
  • Provide Input for Equipment Capital Expenditures - Design for maintainability and reliability.
  • Supports shutdowns as required/needed.
  • Supports stakeholders with troubleshooting complex problems.
  • Apply value analysis (cost vs. benefit) in making maintenance decisions concerning repair, replacement, or redesign of equipment and systems.
  • Update equipment O and M plans to optimize its life-cycle strategies and improve plant performance and maintain a precision maintenance library for use in PM updates
  • Support the maintenance management teams to ensure the work packages are executed as per design.
  • Ensure WO user statuses are properly maintained throughout the lifecycle of the work order.
  • Review and promote/reject all new notifications into your work center through the group approval process.
  • Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful execution of work orders for completion by their Required End Date.
  • Manage backlog to ensure work orders are planned based off priority and required end date.
  • Monitor KPIs and actively strive towards plant targets.
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Maintenance Reliability professional and or a Maintenance Management Professional designation is an asset.
Experience:
  • 3 years minimum experience in mechanical or maintenance role preferably within the mining and processing sector.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) within the province of Ontario preferred.
Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an industrial environment such as mining, utilities, or construction.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be skilled in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Must have strong organization and time management skills.
  • Capacity to influence without authority.
  • Takes initiative and is self-directed to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
