Mechanical Engineer

Job Description


Reporting to the Technical Product Lead, Orca, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining the Orca product, involving detailed design, building prototypes, working with a cross functional team.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with the Manufacturing and Service teams to investigate failures leading to root-cause, and implementing creative, cost-effective solutions (incl. test jigs, tests, etc).
  • Develop volume manufacturable designs and work with the manufacturing team and vendors/supply chain to optimize designs for assembly.
  • Provide design services for new and upcoming products: strength analysis, thermal management designs, fluid flow design, bus bar design, etc.
  • Maintain and own product level configurations, BOMs, interface to supply chain. Qualification of alternative parts and specifications.
  • Conduct design review meetings to present new designs/solutions
  • Other duties as required.
  • Help develop best practices for CAD modeling and design documentation
  • Build prototypes, perform FAI, fitment, and functional tests to evaluate/verify design
  • Participant in ECO process and CAR investigation/ownership


Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years' experience in a product development/manufacturing company.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient at SolidWorks (assembly, drawing, sheet metal, simulation, MBD)
  • Experienced with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes, test jigs, and fixtures.
  • Experience in the following: FEA analysis, DFMEA's, PDM and volume manufacturing.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes such as forming, machining, plastic injection molding, 3D printing
  • Must work well as an individual with minimal supervision or as part of a small agile multi-disciplinary design team.
