We are currently providing an opportunity for a well-rounded, detail oriented, and focused professional to join our team in the position of Maintenance Mechanic to oversee the safe and cost-effective repair of our equipment at YYT St. John's International Airport.

About the Position:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supporting and abiding by the company's Mission, Values and Purpose;
  • Promoting and adhering to our safety and respectful workplace culture and instilling this culture while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance with all provincial and federal rules and regulations;
  • Perform mechanical repairs to all Inland equipment, to include independent diagnosis and repair of engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical, hydraulic systems, brake repair and replacement, pump repair and/or replacement, etc.;
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records and conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections to equipment to keep in a safe and operational condition at all times;
  • Assess and respond to the necessary repairs and maintenance of all processing, de-icing, recovery and transportation equipment as assigned by leadership;
  • Communicate daily with team members to ensure that all are informed about equipment status and expected outcome from the next shift on maintenance items that are outstanding;
  • Inform the General Manager on equipment issues and new airport/airline policies;
  • Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently. AIRCRAFT ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY;
  • Perform/complete other additional projects, duties, and assignments as required and/or by management request.
Please Note: This position requires a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP).

Qualifications:

Interested candidates will have demonstrated expertise in the following required skills and experience:
  • Minimum of 1-year previous experience performing general mechanical repairs;
  • Certified Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician or registered apprentice considered an asset;
  • Must possess basic hand tools common to the trade up to 1/2" drive;
  • Valid Driver's License and driving record that meets Company insurance standards;
  • Working knowledge of manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools;
  • Knowledge of fluid types, diesel-powered machines, and tools including their designs, uses repair and maintenance;
  • Must possess basic welding and fabrication skills;
  • Successful completion of all classroom and OJT training;
  • Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays for the duration of the de-icing season (October 1st to May 31st);
  • Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively;
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and the ability to use Inland's independent computer program "Ice Link - Aircraft Ground De-icing Management System";
  • Proven success delivering results in a fast-paced, multi-deadline, high-stress environment;
  • Willing to learn new skills and adapt to change in order to support the growth of the company and meet needs of customers.
In this job, you can expect to "get your hands dirty" when you are supporting your team in the hands-on operation of our aircraft re-fueling, reclamation and tank farm management operations. Other physical demands include but are not limited to:
  • Must be comfortable working outside on the pad in all types of weather conditions (SNOW, RAIN, WIND, and whatever else Mother Nature deems necessary for the season);
  • Standing, walking, sitting and using your hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls as well as reaching with your hands and arms;
  • Speaking clearly and fluently in English;
  • Ability to hear efficiently;
  • Ability to climb 15-foot heights;
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and twenty (20) pounds regularly;
  • Comfortable working in an extended bucket attached to a boom of a deicing truck at greater than 15 feet in height;
  • Ability to clearly see close-up and at a distance with ability to differentiate colour; use peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus;
  • Wearing of personal protective equipment when required and full mobility allowing for freedom of movement in high-risk environment.
