Job Description

The Central North Correctional Centre is seeking a maintenance professional to assist and escort trades personnel in project work as well as provide general maintenance services for the facility.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Support maintenance project work within the correctional facility by assisting and escorting tradespersons and contractors
• Ensure safety and security of the work area
• Liaise with contractors and correctional staff
• Ensure safe storage, sorting, and disposal of waste
• Perform various maintenance duties
• Report issues to supervisor
• Update and maintain reports and logs
• Other duties, as assigned

NOTE:

• This position works within the secure section of the correctional facility and within the vicinity of inmates
• This position works 40 hours a week but may be required to work different shifts as needed and occasionally on weekends based on project needs

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You possess valid First Aid and Heartsaver certificates or are able/willing to obtain upon employment

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have knowledge and experience with a wide variety of maintenance functions
• You know techniques and methods in servicing and repairing various structures and equipment
• You are able to assist skilled tradespersons in maintenance project work
• You have experience with the safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools
• You have knowledge of relevant legislation (such as Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS)
• You have demonstrated ability to understand and comply with corporate policies and protocols in order to acquire knowledge of institutional security practices and procedures
• You have knowledge of environmental waste management regulations for garbage and hazardous waste to ensure safe storage and disposal

Communication Skills

• You are able to clearly discuss work projects with trades personnel as well as interact with correctional staff and inmates
• You have written communication skills to complete reports on assigned projects as well as maintain accurate logs

Problem-Solving Skills

• You can ensure the safety and integrity of installations
• You can recognize workplace hazards and security breaches and ensure prompt corrective action
• You can ensure work is completed in a timely manner

  Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Employer's policy and will be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
