Job Overview


We are hiring a Maintenance Mechanic (Apprentice) to work within a food manufacturing environment in Mississauga, ON. In this role, you'll be ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of production and packaging equipment within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for maintaining mechanical systems through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs while strictly adhering to safety protocols, food safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

You'll work closely with production and quality assurance teams, to help minimize equipment downtime, support consistent product quality, and contribute to achieving production goals. This role involves identifying root causes of mechanical failures, implementing effective solutions, and maintaining detailed maintenance records to support ongoing reliability and continuous improvement efforts.

Pay Rate

: Starts at $19.50 per hour

Work Schedule

: Monday to Friday (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM)

Responsibilities



Diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and safely restore equipment to proper working condition. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks based on equipment plans and manufacturer guidelines. Inspect, lubricate, adjust, and replace mechanical components such as belts, chains, bearings, seals, and fittings. Repair or replace components including conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, and drive systems as required. Support basic pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance tasks under supervision. Verify that all machine guards and safety devices are correctly installed and functioning after maintenance work. Communicate equipment conditions, downtime, and repair progress effectively with the maintenance and production teams. Accurately complete work orders, maintenance logs, and shift handover documentation. Record parts usage, report recurring equipment issues, and monitor wear trends to identify potential failures. Maintain tools, parts, and maintenance equipment in clean and safe working condition.

Qualifications



Trade certification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or equivalent hands-on mechanical maintenance experience. High school diploma or equivalent education. About 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment. Experience in a food manufacturing setting is considered an asset. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to interpret equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, and basic mechanical drawings. High attention to detail, strong safety awareness, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
