Note:
During this apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to progress to the Maintenance Mechanic 2 (MM2) classification upon successful completion of 12 months at the Maintenance Mechanic 1 classification. The pay range for the MM2 classification is $26.98 - $29.90 per hour.
The Ministry
The Ministry of Natural Resources provides opportunities for resource development and outdoor recreation for the continuous economic and social benefit of the people of Ontario; and to administer, protect, and conserve public lands and waters. The Ministry's programs are concerned with the use of the physical resources such as land, water, trees, fish, animals and certain minerals for resource utilization and recreation.
The Branch
The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, and other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.

About the job

As an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprentice, you will provide maintenance services to the fleet of Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources' aircraft by:
assisting licensed aircraft engineers with inspecting aircrafts to detect faults
analyzing pilot reported flight defects
assisting with all necessary repairs or adjustments
determining repair or rectification procedures
assisting pilots with loading aircraft and security cargo
installing and removing special equipment
What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements
You have completed training in aircraft maintenance through a Transport Canada approved training course, such as a 2 year technology diploma program. Successful completion will be confirmed prior to hire.
You have the ability to obtain a Restricted Radio Telephone Operator's Certificate.
You have the ability to obtain airport security clearance per regulatory requirements.
Technical Knowledge
You have knowledge of specialized methods and techniques of aircraft maintenance.
You have knowledge of the proper function of engines, flight, hydraulic, avionics, undercarriage and propulsion systems.
You have knowledge of the interaction of aircraft systems to assist in evaluating and classifying flight defects.
Technical Skills
You have the ability to use precision tools, hand tools and related aircraft test equipment.
You have the ability to work with computerized maintenance systems.
You have the ability to work with a high degree of coordination and dexterity and the ability to lift and manipulate aircraft components.
Essential Skills
You have interpersonal and communication skills to clearly convey technical information.
You have analytical skills to assist in determining the cause of the aircraft deficiencies.
