Reporting to the General Manager, the Maintenance Manager will be responsible for maintaining the greenhouse and warehouse facilities while safeguarding the layout and machinery used to produce materials and goods while ensuring maximum efficiency and output. This position requires a strong problem solver who can anticipate and correct possible issues with machinery. The Maintenance Manager will be technically proficient and focused while faced with multiple concurrent projects along with maintaining an effective preventative maintenance program; the hiring, training, and supervising of all maintenance personnel, the procuring of supplies, material, and equipment, and assisting with budget preparation and operating within budgetary guidelines. Completing and maintaining proper documentation as required by Health Canada. Job Duties

  • Ensure daily operations of the facility.
  • Assist in oversite of the Building Management System (BMS) by working with the General Manager and Operations Manager to ensure the system is functioning properly, and to investigate issues and alarms.
  • Increase site operational effectiveness, manage, and implement improvement plans, drive KPI\xe2\x80\x99s, and ensure Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
  • Assist with budget preparation and operating within budgetary guidelines.
  • Schedule, train, supervise and motivate Maintenance Department staff and initiate performance management strategies when required.
  • Delegate all maintenance issues to be resolved.
  • Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule and ensure preventative maintenance duties are carried out.
  • Ensure inventory of high demand and critical parts.
  • Develop departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WI).
  • Ensure inventory of high demand and critical parts.
  • Manage breakdowns of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and equipment (including software programming, HVAC, refrigeration, etc.); ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements are routinely performed.
  • Schedule and manage contractors, consultants, and external vendors to ensure efficiency of process and timely completion of required work; coordinate work performed by external vendors; ensure they meet legal and company requirements.
  • Perform daily walkthroughs of the facility, inspect equipment, machinery and infrastructure and creating checklists for work pending; prioritize maintenance and repairs of company equipment and parts.
  • Manage the process of new machinery and equipment introduction from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures for the Maintenance Department in collaboration with the Operations Manager; and undertake continuous training and developments, staying current in technological trends and maintenance best practices.
  • Work with heating, irrigation, ventilation, curtains, scissor karts, sorting equipment, automated stacking, and bagging machines pumps, motors, frequency drives, boilers, chillers, generators, pasteurizers, piping, valves, heat exchangers, radiators, tanks, sensors, relays, batteries, computers, electrical, electronics, etc.
  • Ensure new and existing equipment and tools comply with all safety regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Health Canada guidelines.
  • Generate all snow removal operations and overseeing all snow removal machinery and carry out daily and periodic maintenance.
  • Ensure all paperwork and logbooks are updated and comply with Health Canada audit standards.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Certified technician in a relevant trade, i.e., Mechanic, Instrumentation, Electrician etc. is considered an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience.
  • Apprenticeship or trade seal in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or relevant discipline from accredited institution.
  • Experience with HVAC, refrigeration.
  • Demonstrated experience with generic packaging and labelling equipment and automation controls.
  • Experience in a Health Canada Regulated facility.
  • Strong ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Excellent knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
Work Conditions
  • 24/7 availability may be required.
  • Physical ability to lift to 30 lbs.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with job duties.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Noisy with fumes.
  • Long hours, which may entail 12 hours or more per working day.
  • Conditions in the greenhouse may be hot and humid in the summer. Outdoor work may also be required.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, squatting, and bending.
