The Maintenance Manager is responsible for working closely with the Operations Manager, Site Managers and General Manager to oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operations of several solid waste/recycling facilities. This role also monitors compliance with safety and other regulations. Generally, the operation is a 24 hour per day facility.
What will you do?
  • Ensure smooth operation of several solid waste facilities in accordance with the operating contract;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with dealers, vendors and third-party contractors;
  • Negotiate equipment/parts, services and warranties with vendors and manufacturers.
  • Trouble shooting of the fleet of yellow iron including wheel loaders, track loaders, dozers, excavators and forklifts.
  • Oversee the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with the support of Administration;
  • Collect, analyze and track key performance indicators related to the mobile equipment;
  • Responsible to make recommendations on capital acquisitions related to the equipment;
  • When necessary, a hands-on approach to fix equipment and minimize downtime;
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance tasks and goals are achieved to ensure safe and efficient operations;
  • Oversee a small crew of heavy-duty mechanics or millwrights;
  • Review and evaluate work to ensure quality, timeliness and adherence to policies and procedures;
  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of processes, procedures and programs to improve safety, productivity, and profitability of the facilities;
  • Support Site Managers to ensure that they are optimizing the efficiencies of their respective crews with a focus on the operation of the mobile equipment;
  • Manage maintenance schedules and costs;
  • Lead, conduct and/or attend safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote morale, productivity and efficiency; and
  • Create and submit daily, weekly and month end reports to senior management.

What will you bring?
  • HD Red Seal or equivalent experience;
  • Prior experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity;
  • Team management experience;
  • Proficient in MS Office suite;
  • Experience with a CMMS
  • A mindset that promotes a positive work environment;
  • Must be flexible to work outside the regular working schedule;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with employees at various levels of the organization; and
  • Experience in the waste management and recycling industry is an asset, but not necessary.
