About the job

In this role, you will:
repair, replace and/or construct new historical and modern wooden structures
work with and provide advice and technical direction to summer maintenance students, trade contractors and licensed partners
operate vehicles/equipment such as tractors, trucks, ATV's, leaf blowers, line trimmers, lawn mowers, chain saws, and snow blowers
perform duties such as:
drywall repairs, maintenance of mechanical equipment and tools, basic welding
masonry work, grounds keeping, basic plumbing, washroom repairs
roof repairs, waste removal, housekeeping and general maintenance
Please Note:
This position requires holiday, weekend and/or evening work for special events and programming and attending and participating in meetings and training as required
What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements
You have a valid Class "G" Driver's Licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario
#
Carpentry and repair skills
You have:
experience using carpentry-related techniques, equipment and tools used to determine the proper methods of building
experience altering and replacing structures and maintaining and repairing carpentry installations
knowledge of woodworking techniques and conservation practices associated with reproduction and period furnishings
experience applying safe practices in the use and maintenance of tools
You can:
assess and recommend method of repairs needed for structures, and maintaining tools and equipment
build and modify carpentry, boat building and structural installations
perform minor mechanical repairs to tractors, lawn mowers and small machinery

Technical knowledge and expertise
You have:
demonstrated knowledge of relevant by-laws and codes to ensure the safety of structures and determining work methods
experience using blueprints, sketches and plans to ensure the proper layout and measurements of structures
experience estimating labour and material requirements to build, modify and replace structures
working knowledge of relevant sections of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Communication skills
You have:
oral communication skills to discuss in detail new installations, extensive repairs and work plans
written communication skills to prepare sketches and plans regarding replacement of structures and methods of construction
interpersonal skills to explain carpentry techniques to the public when working on the historic site

Agricultural experience
You have the ability to assist with planting, cultivating and harvesting vegetables, herbs and flowers from modern and historic gardens
You can provide general care to animals on the historic site
#
Computer skills
You can operate computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, email and the internet to complete daily tasks
